Chapter 5

Monday came back around which meant it was time to face school. Nova knew she had to hide her scar, so she grabbed some old hobo gloves and placed them on her hands. She looked at Seven, she wondered how he was gonna get passed the metal detectors. Today was supposed to be a safety test day. She hoped they would cancel it but no school she knew of would cancel a safety test day.

Lane was in the living room fixing the damage from yesterday. Blake and Sakura were arguing who would get in the shower first. Nova came down the stairs dressed in a red leather mini skirt, torn leggings, and a black shirt that says back off I’m Goth on the front. She then grabbed her “Invader Zim” book bag and headed for the door. Lane walked up to her and put one hand on her shoulder, “Where are you going?”

“School, why are you stopping me?” She asked.

“You are NOT going out there.”

“Because you killed Angela, she was a friend of Brian’s.”

“He will order people to kill you!”

“I killed my first vampire this yesterday morning. I’m sure I can handle more.”

“No you…can’t.”

“And why not, I-,” She began.

“I don’t want to lose you!”

Nova’s eyes widened, she was in complete shock. Lane pulled her closer; his short, black, curly hair was all over the place and his arms were so big from the muscles. Nova looked into hi deep blue eyes, and said, “Okay.” Lane smiled.

Blake and Sakura were finally ready before seven and Nova sat in the living room with Lane as they talked about their memories of old friends and happy family moments. Sakura stared at them from the top of the stairs, “Blake, aren’t they a cute couple?” Blake walked in with a towel around his neck.

He walked down the stairs into the kitchen. Lane and Nova were still laughing about everything. Sakura couldn’t help but wonder what Blake’s problem was. She then walked down the stairs and followed Blake. She saw him sitting at the table with his head down. She walked up to him and said, “Today’s the day, huh?”

“Yeah, the anniversary of my brother, sister and mother’s death, it sucks you know?”

“Yeah I know.”

Sakura put a hand on his shoulder, “It’ll be okay, you have us.”

“I guess your right.”

“Of course I am, now come on we gotta get to school.”

“Fine, but I’m driving.”

“Okay.” She laughed.

They went out of the kitchen to see no one was there, when they went outside they saw Nova and Lane waiting in the car.

As they reached the school Nova started to get terrified. She didn’t have any clue how to get Seven inside. Then she heard Seven’s voice, “I’m not metal so they can’t detect me. There’s no need to worry.”

Nova sighed in relief then headed for the double doors. Lane and the others where right behind her, so she knew she had enough confidence to go against the detectors, she passed the first detector with ease so did the others. A police officer then walked up to her, “Are you Nova Landers?”

“Um, yes sir is there a problem.”

“We found the criminals that have taken your stolen items. They were acting strange so we automatically arrested them.”

“Oh uh thank you officer.” She thanked him but then she looked at his neck, he had fang marks!

Nova turned towards Lane then ran into his arms, “Nova what’s wrong?”

She whispered, “He has fang marks but isn’t affected by the sun what’s going on?”

He whispered back, “They’re called Hybrids; they aren’t hurt by the sun as easy as me or Brian.”

“But what are they exactly?”

“They are vampires who were once human; a bite from them on a vampire is like poison that will kill them in approximately ten minutes.”

“Okay thanks.”

Nova got out of Lane’s arms and walked to her first period. She looked back to see if the Hybrids were going to hurt them. No they were behind her. Nova finally reached her first class which was Mr. Bowles, he was the art teacher.

As she walked in she saw her enemy, the one girl that was all looks and no brains, Georgia Lowe, she was the meanest girl in the school. Her “Prep Crew” was behind her they were pretty much all the jocks and cheerleaders. Nova sat down at the table in the back away from everyone else. Lane, Blake, and Sakura sat beside her. Blake had his head down low and Sakura sat straight while trying to comfort Blake. Lane had his eyes open wide as he stared at the two of them. Nova giggled a little.

Georgia walked up to their table and laughed, “Look everyone Nova has some new cutting buddies.” Everyone laughed.

Nova smiled, “Hi George.”

Georgia gasped and slammed one hand on the table, “You listen here little miss Emo girl-.”

“Oh nice come back.”

She gasped again, “You know what I am sick of you being little ‘Miss Perfect’ around these three. You’re not fooling anyone with your little Emo act!”

“I can show you my scars if you want.”

Georgia stomped her feet, “You little brat!”

Nova just looked at the others. Sakura was still comforting Blake, but he rose from the table and slammed his hands on the table, “Shut up!”

“Uh, what did you say to me?”

“You must be hard of hearing, I told you to shut up!”

“You are not my boss Mr. Gothic.”

“First of all, I’m not gothic, second I know we are better then you in everyway!”

“Oh really?”

“So are you better then me at singing in a band?”

“Of course we are!”

“Okay, prove it at lunch today, but I want Nova to be the lead singer.”

Nova shook her head no at Blake. Blake didn’t pay any attention, “Fine she’ll do it.”

Nova then slapped herself on the forehead. Georgia then went back to her table laughing. Blake sat back down; Sakura slapped him in the back of the head, “Ow, what was that for?”

“Nova doesn’t like to sing anymore remember, she hasn’t sung since her parents were murdered.”

“Oh, yeah sorry Nova got a little carried away.”

Nova slammed her head down on the desk then moaned.
