Chapter One

I tuned back in from my thoughts and looked down at my coffee. I heard a large amount of noise coming from behind me but, I couldn't care less. I took my cell phone out and checked the time. It was about 6:30 am, so why would there be so much noise in Starbucks? I finally gave in and turned around. I saw a huge crowed with some dude in the middle, telling them to move so he can get his coffee. I laughed to myself while watching all the racket. The man looked around the coffee shop, which if I may add, looked pretty hard with the large amount of people around him. He caught my gaze and gave me a funny look. He pushed through the crowed and sat in-front of me.

"Back off everyone. You'll make my girlfriend jealous." He said and gave me a look pleading me to play along.

I raised and eyebrow but shrugged it off. All the women gave me death glares but, walked away. The man turned to me and sighed while smirking at me.

"What?" I demanded

"Why aren't you all over me like those girls?" He asked.

"Because, I have no clue who you are."

He looked shocked. "How could you not know me! I'm like the most famous singer in the world!"

I laughed "Your Justin Bieber???"

"What NO! You listen to him but, not me?!"

"First of all I don't listen to Justin Bieber my daughter does. Second of all talk about having a huge ego! You think everyone  just knows you and loves you! You know what? I don't!"

He looked stunned but, smirked,"So, you have a daughter? Didn't know I was with an already taken woman."

I looked away but, said "No my husband died."

When I looked back at him, he had his eyebrow raised but, looked kind of... sorry.

"When in the world did you get married?" He asked. So much for the thought he was actually sorry.

"When I was eighteen"

"Because, he had to leave for deployment" I said looking away again. "That's why he died. He died in the war."

"Oh" Was all he said.

"Yea." I said looking down at my coffee.

"When did that happen?"

"Two years ago."

"So, your... Twenty right?" He said pausing in-between so he could think.

I just nodded.

"Oh, I'm Twenty-One." He said matter-of-factly.

"Why are you talking to me?" I asked raising my eyes to look at him.

"Why not?"

"Because, you don't even know me!"

"Correction I do know you, just not your name."

"Nor will you ever know my name." I said standing up to walk out to my car.

Unfortunately, he followed.

"Well, I'm going to follow you until you tell me your name." He said leaning against the hood of my car.

"No your not! I have to go pick up Shanon from Night-Care." I said getting in my car. He slid in the passenger seat.

I sighed and put my hands over my face. "Just go away, please?"

"Not happening, babe" He said smirking

"Don't call me that" I snapped.

"Oh sorry, babe"

I groaned and started the car. The whole way there he played with my hair, my radio and really anything to make me mad. I pulled into the parking lot of Shanon's Night-Care and walked in. The woman at the front desk was talking on the phone when I walked up. I stood patiently waiting for to finish her call.

She pulled the phone away from her mouth while covering the speaker part, but left it at her ear. "How may I help you?"

"Uh, I need to pick up my child she's 1 and a years old?"

She pointed to the left door, and smiled politely walking away to the door. I looked over my shoulder and saw the man and woman that the desk flirting. Funny thing was, was that she wasn't on the phone anymore. I walked into the room and saw Shanon talking to one of the Night-Care helpers. The young lady looked up and smiled at me while looking back to Shanon telling her something.

Shanon looked over at me and smiled. She raised her arms for me to pick her up and gladly did. I held her to me and thanked the Night-Care helper and went back in the main room. The man looked up at me and smirked. The girl at the front desk looked at me and gave me a nasty look. The man came up to me and smiled at Shanon. I held her closer to me, and glared at him.

"Are you going to tell me your name now? Or am I going to have to follow you home too?" He asked

I frowned at him. "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours first."

"Okay... My name is Jake"

"Jake..." I trailed off letting him finish for me.

"Jake Barnett" He said "What's your name?"

I just smirked and walked to my car and put Shanon in her car seat.

"You told me you would tell me if I told you mine." Jake said from beside me.

"Oops I lied" I said smiling and closing the door and getting in the driver's seat. Of course Jake jumped in the passenger seat and smirked at me. I rolled my eyes at him but, drove home any ways.

I pulled into the driveway and got Shanon out holding her on my hip as I walked. I put in the lock code in and unlocked the door with my key. I looked at Jake from the corner of my eye and saw him giving me weird looks. I shrugged it off and went inside. I went upstairs to Shanon's room and sat her down and watched her play with some of her toys. After I was satisfied knowing she was distracted I turned around to see that Jake hadn't followed me up to her room. I went downstairs to find him and saw him in the kitchen. I looked at the vase on the counter and back at him. My eyes widened.
