The ride to the dinner was short and quite. The only thing that made any noise was the radio. It sang to Sarah Evens Stronger.

As he drove my thoughts went wild. Drem said that people told him who he was. Who were these people? Are they ones who killed my parents? My mind continued to rush these quick thoughts into my head, not good thoughts. Scary unthinkable thoughts.

I knew I should ask him, but I was too scared to. Giving myself up like that could be life threating. And if he is one of them then he could be in trouble to.

“Who were the people who told you what you are?”

“I really don’t remember, they wore black and they came to me at night. They told me they knew what I was and that there are more like me. And when I was ready to join them they would come get me,” he said.

“Drem I have to tell you something.”

“What is it Babe?”

“My parents weren’t killed in a car accident.”

“What do you mean?”

“I have been living with foster parents my entire life. And when you asked I didn’t know who you were. That you were a Night Raiser. I had to make up something while I was growing up. I picked a head on collision.”

“How did your parents die?”

“They were murdered like I said. But by the people who will collect you when you’re ready.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I watched my parents die, protecting me. These men came to our house one night dressed in black. They argued with my parents and eventually my parents were silenced. Forever.” I sighed. “I only thought there was a few of them but what you descried to me is them. You were born to kill people like me.”

“Keme, if I had known…….” He trailed off.

“Drem, if anything we had no idea. Let’s just finish this date and forget about each other. Maybe they won’t recognize who I am.”

“Keme,” He grabbed my hand. “I won’t be able to forget about you.”

“You’re going to have to try. Drem, I don’t want them finding me.”

“But you could get away. You can turn into anything.”

“They know I still live Drem. They won’t let me live. I can get away but for how long?”

We were parked at the dinner. He moved my hand to his face. I didn’t mean for this to happen. I wanted to be with Drem as much as he wanted to believe I was wrong.

If I learned anything is when I say something it’s not wrong. It’s usually half way or all the way right.  He kissed my hand each finger at a time.

“Drem….” My voice trailed off.

“Hmmm?” he mumbled.

He reached for me to come closer.  I wanted to obey, then I remembered where we were. “Drem. We are here. People are staring!”

“Let them.” He whispered on my neck. It sent chills down my spine. He kissed my neck countless times.

“Drem we need to go inside.” No! Please! Don’t stop! I thought. He sighed and nodded.

Keme’s skin felt so soft so natural that it felt like living silk. I knew she didn’t want me to stop my showering of kisses. Neither did I. But it was almost 8 o’clock and we needed food.

“Come this way my dear.” She smiled. Just looking at her mad my blood boil.

As we sat down at the table her face began to pale. She closed her eyes for a long time and when she opened them they were dull. She looked feverish.

“Keme, are you feeling alright?”

“Hmm? Yeah this is really normal really. But I will need to go home soon.”

“Is everything alright?”

“Something is wrong and I sometimes when I shift I get feverish. Its normal honest.”

“What’s wrong?”

She smiled, “Just a feeling.”

“That makes me feel better.” She reached for my hand her hand was as cold as ice. But it felt so good against my own.

“I am fine really.”

The waitress came out and took our orders and as the food arrived she only appeared to get worse.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go home?”

“This is our first and most likely our last date let us enjoy okay?”

I shifted not liking the comment. “Okay.”

As the dinner ended in silence, Keme could barely hold herself up. I grabbed her arm as she buckled and her eyes fluttered close. Keme what is wrong with you? I wanted to shout. The quickest way to get her home was to fly. Which I can’t do, smart! I laid her in the back of the car. Grabbing her cell phone from her hoodie.

“Ms. Michaels?”

“Drem? Is something wrong?”

“Keme, she’s fainted. I don’t know why. I have her in my car. We are on the way to you.”

“How long as she been out?”

“Five minutes or less.”

“What have you all done?”

“We went by my friend’s house and hung out then left for dinner. She was starting to look sick at dinner but she told me not to worry. We were leaving to bring her home when I noticed she couldn’t walk and nearly collapsed. I caught her. Ms. Michaels what is wrong with her?”

“I don’t know. Maybe that walk in the woods was she stung?”

“Not that I know of. We are here.”

I say Ms. Michaels on the porch. The same place I was waiting for her hours ago. I parked and brought her to Ms. Michaels, “On the couch.” I laid her there. She looked like she was just sleeping. Nothing to abnormal, but her face was as white as snow. She was shaking.

“Now don’t you get scared now.” She raised her hands over Keme’s body, they began to glow. Little rays shinned onto Keme’s entire body she glowed like an angel.

When Ms. Michaels finished her hands resumed their normal aspect. Keme sighed and her face began to look normal. She stopped shaking. She didn’t however wake up.

“I am an Earthen Witch. I know what you are and I know what Keme is. She will wake in the morning. Nothing is wrong with her now.”

“What was wrong with her?”

“It seems like her shape shift took more than she thought.”

“That’s what she said earlier.”

“From now on no more transformations. She is weak. If she changes into a full change she could become stuck. I will tell her who I am in the morning; she will not be at school.”

“Drem, I don’t know how much you can be around her. Your people are the reason she is here. My house is protected from them. They cannot find here, they know we live here but can’t see who we are. Drem, right now it’s dangerous.”

“I understand. Would you like me to carry her to her bed?”

“That would be wonderful!”

I picked up Keme and she sighed happily. Did she know I was holding her? Could she feel me? Or could she be dreaming about me? My thoughts created wild things and each one felt so true that I knew they were.

I left her on her bed, bending down to give her a kiss. Ms. Michaels covered her up and opened the window for fresh air. I turned to walk down the flight of stared and heard Ms. Michael whisper in her ear as if she were singing, “Live long, and Ride long. Come home to me my sweet. We have much to discuss and a promise to make. Come to me in darkness, in light, and in tears. Come home to me my sweet. Live long, ride long.”

She walked toward me and closed Keme’s door behind her. “Come along Drem. Time you were getting home.”

“Night. And remember what lies in this house are secrets. Not a soul should know about.”

“I understand.”

I got into my car and drove away. What in the world did I get my self into? It was a dream a silly dream. Keme will tell me so tomorrow at school. Yeah, tomorrow at school she’ll tell me it was a dream. All a dream.
