Chapter 8

Samantha’s heart stopped as her brother began delivering his news; she did not know what to expect.

“Mark, what are you talking about, what do you mean you can’t continue chemo?” asked Sam.

“I mean Sam, that the oncologist finds no reason to continue anymore.” replied Mark simply.

“This makes no sense, you been at it for months and you have stage one,the doctor told you the tumor is really small and he was vey hopeful to shrink it after a few months of therapy. Why could you not continue?” asked Jason bewildered.

“Unless you mean—?” Mom added with her lips curling into a smile.

“Yes, the doctor doesn’t find a need because well, I AM CURED!!!!!!” screamed Mark.

“OH MY GOD, MARK!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?” shouted Sam.

“Yeah, read the letter for yourselves, at first I got confused by what the doctor was saying, you know them and their annoyingly complicated words” said Mark rolling his eyes.

“Jenny, when I saw you crying, I thought the exact opposite” exclaimed Jason.

“I know! But I was so happy that I couldn’t help but cry” she said whilst laughing.

“This calls for a celebration! Let us all go out to dinner now shall we, Jenny, you are coming and I don’t want to hear anything about it; you are practically family now” said Dan with a wink in Mark’s direction.

“Wait, what was that wink right there Mr. Saunders” asked Jenny suspiciously.

“N-Nothing sweetheart, my dad likes these sort of jokes” said Mark hastily.

“Yeah Jenny, I am the jokester here, why, in no time you will be finding out a lot of things about the family” added Dan slyly.

“Dad, can I please talk to you privately? Asked Mark and tugging on Dan’s arm all the same.

“Yeah sure son, I will be right back, everyone” said Dan oblivious to his son’s discomfort.

Samantha watched her brother and father enter the kitchen and was giggling the entire time, well not the ENTIRE time, just as soon as she found out the amazing news. She kept thinking about the look Mark gave Dad, what could it have possibly meant? Unless it was- Nah!! Sometimes, being in my own head sucks, thought Samantha.

After dinner, Sam decided to go online and check her email and her Face book. Logging on, she finds that she has an email from none other than Michael Coleman!! How on earth did he get my email anyways, she wondered. She decided to read it even though she was dreading the outcome.

Hey Sam,

How are you doing? It’s been a while. I have been thinking about you a lot. It is getting harder for me to concentrate on anything else. I really need to talk to you. Meet me in the Gardens at 6:00pm on Friday the 17th...Please...

Yours...,

Michael

Sam couldn’t even fathom why he would even want to talk to her. He thought I was ignoring him, that is weird she thought. She started to feel guilty, so she decided to give him a chance and replied to his email…

Hi Michael,

I don’t think I was ignoring you at all, I actually thought you were ignoring me :S. Umm… sure I guess I’ll talk to you tomorrow, but 5 minutes only; not more and I would prefer to do it in school. How about the cafeteria at 4:00pm?

Bye,

Samantha

As Samantha logged off her mail, she proceeded to check her Face book. Once she logged on, Sara started to talk to her. Sam told her all about the email and how she felt bad so decided to find out what he wants but she changed the venue of their, shall we say, meeting. Sara got very excited, or so it appeared to Sam, since with chats you never can tell. Out of the blues, a new chat window pops up and Michael Coleman again comes out of nowhere. He tries to talk to Sam but all she can do is wonder where he got her Face book account and when did she even add him.

Michael Says:

Sam… where r u?

Sam Says:

m here wats up?

Michael Says:

Hi How r u?

Sam Says:

m good! U?

Michael Says:

Still hurt! =(

Sam Says:

Y?

Michael Says:

U noe y.

Sam Says:

Um… anyways watsup? And how did you get my email?

Michael Says:

You have it saved on the school website :P

Sam Says:

Oh right… Did you get my reply?

Michael Says:

Yeah I did & thank u for agreeing to meet me.

Sam Says:

Since we r already talking, mind tellin me wats going on?

Michael Says:

Nah, I think I’ll leave it till 2morow

And with that, he disconnects and Sam is left wondering.

Friday classes went on as usual; but the clock seemed to be accelerating at a scary speed. Sam felt like she just arrived in school when 3:50pm came along. After getting a pep talk from her friends, she proceeded down the corridors until she reached the cafeteria. She sat waiting for him. After half an hour of waiting, he still didn’t show up. Sam decided to wait another half an hour and then leave. So she waited… and waited… still no sign of him. When the hour was up, Sam felt very foolish and left.

Once she got home, she decided to forget all about Michael and promised herself not to give him another chance again.

***

“He is such a jerk! I can’t believe he did that!” exclaimed Anna.

“I know, and just when I thought I would finally give him a chance; guess that was stupid” sighed Sam.

Sam was busy telling Anna what happened the day before when a guy she never met came up to her and handed her a note. She protested saying that this is probably meant for someone else. The guy, whose name turned out to be Matt, told her it was meant for her and rushed off.

Dear Sam,

Why didn’t you meet me in the Gardens yesterday? I waited so long to the point my mother was considering filing a missing person’s report. By the way, I am serious about the report! Please come meet me today at 5pm in the gym…

Yours...,

Michael

Sam didn’t know what to think! She was so shocked at both the circumstance and his stupidity that she is seriously beginning to wonder if he is sane or not. She consulted Anna on the situation and Anna simply said to forget it; it is not worth the trouble. Sam agreed with her on the most part, but somehow couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to see him.

A/N 2... Thanks so much for reading... If you have any suggestions; let me know but let me explain first... The reason it seems to be a tense confusion is becasue I am writing in both the present and past tense... when I, the story teller, is speaking it is past tense (bbecause I am telling you a story that happened) but when the characters speak to each other, it is like they are speaking now (in the present) so they get to talk in the present tense... The chapters are labelled this way because booksie made chapter 1 the prologue so anything else that proceeds would ahve a wrong chapter number...When some one gives me suggestions I listen and change accordingly. My first language isnt english and this is the first time EVER that I try something like this so I appreciate all the critique... Thanks for reading and if you have any questions or have any further comments... I would be more than happy to read them!! xoxoxoxoxo
