Chapter 1: Meet the hero.

Gosh, Jake sure was hot. What the heck was up with this weather? He grabbed his shirt and noticed it was all sweaty.

“What a way to start the day, huh?’’, he muttered to himself.

Fanning his own face with his hand, he continued tugging his heavy legs towards the old and looming building in the distance.

Jake had seen this building a million times, but something about it made his heart beat faster. He never seemed to get hold of what was the problem. Maybe it was the spooky trees surrounding it or the creaky doors.

Well, it doesn’t matter anyway. He still had to reach it before 10 in the morning.

Checking his watch, he sighed and swept his hand pass his brown hair.

Yuck, it was all wet too.

Jake’s hair was lusciously brown, and quite curly. His mum always joked that his hair would grow as long as hers, but it never did seem to grow further than his ears. This gave Jake a proper hairstyle that ne never had to worry about, until now.

The stupid librarian wanted all part-time workers to have neat, straight hair. That’s where all the problems started gushing in like a stupid stream of bad luck.

The old hag saw his green eyes and suddenly hated him. Maybe the husband who abandoned her had green eyes too. Again, bad luck.

However, things got worse. Jake was of average height, not like all the jocks. So when he was tasked to arrange the books on bookshelves taller than a bus, he had to stretch. A lot.

This got him into a lot of trouble at school too. His sharp nose and ears gave him a stupid nickname that stuck to him like super glue.

Elf.

Damn no-imagination low lives. Now everyone expected him to be usher Santa Clause in every Christmas. Where in the world would he find a fat man with a long beard? Nowhere, that’s where.

Anyway, Jake was late, so he sprinted towards what would be the beginning of our tale.
