This is my new chapter book about an eleven year old girl named Jaley, whose mother is an alcoholic and abusive and a racehorse named Samurai, who is whipped until he is bloody for not winning. I hope this book will be on shelves today and send awareness about these horrible true things that happen. I would also like to show the connection between both the horse and this girl and how horses are so similar and we can see ourselves in them. Finally, I would like to show so a huge decision, that it's hard to love them when they seem not to love you, and when measures call, what would you choose?

Introduction: Jaley

Let me give you a heads up. This is no la - la - la cutesy story. This is the story of my life. No, I am not rich nor am I poor. I’m ordinary. Well, mostly. This story is about pain, suffer, blood, and something to this day I still don’t understand. All you small stomach, blood sickening people better stop reading now because it only gets worse from here. You see, my mom’s an alcoholic and with her constant drinking comes unconscious because too much alcohol can change someone. All her anger comes out on me. So, there you have it. Oh, and hi, my name’s Jaley.

Introduction: Samurai

So here I come, thundering down the corner in first and to follow it is the whip. My skin feels like it’s shredding at every lash but the men are smart. The blood comes when we are in private so they don’t get caught. I’m tired and have been running constantly and the whip always follows. They want me to go faster and faster as my body begs ‘slower and slower‘. Sure I win the race but did I break any records? No, so I have failed and pain comes with failure. Every night I come back to the stall exhausted, beat, bloody and I look down to see the smallest amount of food. I am Samurai, a racehorse, and I have no idea what I did to deserve this.
