Ashley managed to dodge the teachers and students, and brought me back to our room. At first, I told her it wasn’t a good idea to go back to the dorm, since all the senior girls would be there. But then she told me that whenever something unsafe occurs in the school – fires, floods, robbery, hostage, blackouts – all the students are required to go to the hall and line up according to their years.

She closed the door tightly and then locked it. I staggered to my bed and sat down. My scar no longer hurt, but I could still feel the slight burning sensation. Ashley sat on her bed, looking as though she was concentrating hard on something.

Instead of speaking, I tried to remember what happen. I was dancing, then the lights went off. Then in comes Jared who kidnaps me, then later hits into something. I fall and I see Ashley. Then I don’t, and soon my scar starts hurting. I call her name and she reappears and carries me back to the room. To me, this whole thing didn’t fit. Jared couldn’t have been running so fast, especially since he was carrying me. And how could Ashley disappear then reappear so fast? It didn’t make sense at all.

“What just happened?” I asked softly, looking straight at Ashley.
“Something that wasn’t supposed to happen.” She said, sounding angry.
I was taken aback and immediately kept quiet. Ashley, sensing something was wrong, looked at me apologetically. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m still tense.” She said.
“It’s okay.” I replied softly.
“You really want to know what happened?” She asked suddenly, looking all serious.
“Yes.” I said confidently.
“Okay.” She said, taking in a deep breath. “You are a Go-“

All of a sudden, there was a loud knock on the door. More like a bang. I could hear and angry voice shouting, and it seemed to be calling Ashley’s name.

“Oh great.” I heard Ashley say.

I sat on the bed, feeling very confused. I watched as Ashley opened the door, looking reluctant, only to let in a furious looking Demetry and a tensed up Marion. I stared and blink, not comprehending what I saw.

“Do not, tell her.” He huffed
“Why not?” Ashley demanded, clearly irritated. “She has the right to know!”
“Do you want her to spend the rest of her life? Worrying? What if we all died,” As he said this word, Ashley flinched. “And she was left alone? She would know by then what she is, but she would have to spend every single second worrying. Is that what you want?” He said, trying to reason.
“Well, no.” She said, after a short pause. “But still. I think she deserves the right to know. We’ll vote.” She said, as she turned her attention towards Marion. “What do you think Marion?” I heard her ask.
“I think....that she should. After all, she will be able to defend herself once she realizes what she is. I’m sorry Demetry, but it’s for the best.” She said, not looking at him.

As they talked about me, I stared in confusion. I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. “Um, guys? Can you tell me what’s going on? Don’t talk about me like I’m not here.” I said, feeling a little angry. If it was something about me, I think I deserved the right to know.

Demetry was still glaring, but finally, he hung his head in defeat. “Okay. Tell her.” He said, looking at me.

Ashley walked back to me, and looked straight at me. “Shaia, you’re a.... a reincarnation of the Greek Goddess, Artemis.” She said slowly.

The whole room was in silence for about ten, excruciatingly long seconds. No one spoke, and I did not too. “I’m a WHAT?” I asked, not believing my ears. “I’m in a dream, right?” I asked, hoping it was true.

Ashley sighed. “You’re a reincarnation of the Greek Goddess ARTEMIS. And no. Of course you’re not.” She scoffed at my last question.

“Haha. Very funny. I know this trick. You guys are playing trick the new girl right?” I said, on the edge of hysteria.

Marion, clearly tired of all this, came in front of me and gripped my arms tightly. “No, we are not. And you, Shaia Melissa Corvington, descendant of the King of England’s son, Prince Lucas, are the reincarnation of the Goddess Artemis."

As soon as she finished speaking, I stopped squirming and stared at her. I could detect no humour in her eyes, and that made me scared. I knew she was telling the truth, the one that I had denied to listen too. But it was there, so clearly.

I opened my mouth to ask her a question that had been in my head for a long time. "If I'm a Goddess, why did my scar hurt?" I asked, curious.

No one spoke, the finally Demetry broke the silence. "Because you were near evil, or evil was near you. Vice versa." He said simply.

I couldn't comprehend that in my head. Does that mean that Jared was well...evil? Then I remembered, he mentioned something about a Maiden. "Then who is the Maiden that Jared was talking about?" I asked again, feeling very confused.

I heard Marion chuckle softly in the silence, but she stopped as soon as Demetry cast a look at her.

“Okay.” He said, exhaling. “Do you know your family history?” He asked, looking at me expectantly.
“Um...No, not really.” I admitted reluctantly. For some reason, even though history was my favourite subject, I never seemed to be interested in my own family’s history. Perhaps it served me right.
“Thought so.” He said, a small smirk appearing on his face. “Well then, let me tell you.” He said, the smirk still on his face.
Oh, how I would like to wipe that smirk off his face. I thought, annoyed.

“It all first began with your great great grandfather, Prince Lucas, Prince of England. He didn’t run away because he didn’t want to become a King. It was just an excuse he gave. He always dreamed to become King one day, but he had a secret obsession with magical beings such as vampires and werewolves. Well, he saw a vampire, but in turn, he got bitten, and was turned into a vampire himself. For that, he loathed himself. From his studies, he knew that once a human was bitten by a vampire, they would become a vampire themself and never age anymore. After telling his father, he ran away to America, where he met your great great grandmother. They fell in love at first sight, so he married her. Little did he know, she was the reincarnation of the Goddess Artemis. Soon, vampires became aware of this, both good and bad. Unfortunately, the bad side got to her first, and she was too blinded by wealth and fame that Prince Lucas was forced to kill her. He succeeded in the end, but was killed with her.” He said, his eyes looking as though he was far away somewhere.

I didn’t speak for three whole minutes, replaying everything he had said in my mind. Somehow, it made sense to me. And I knew he was speaking the truth. “But you didn’t mention an heir? How could the Corvington line continue?” I asked, curious.

“Ah, my bad. They did manage to conceive a child, a boy. Just before Prince Lucas went to destroy his wife, he gave his baby son to....well..me.” He finished uncomfortably.

You??? My great great grandfather gave his son, to you?” I asked incredulously. I didn’t believe this. Logically, it would be impossible, because that would mean that Demetry is hundreds of years old.

“Well....Yeah.” He said, still looking uncomfortable.

“B-bu-but-but... But... you’re seventeen!” I protested.

“I realized that.””” He said.

“Then how can you... well, know my great great grandfather?” I asked irritably.

This time, the whole room went completely silent, I swear, you could’ve heard a germ breath. All eyes were on Demetry, watching and waiting. Finally he spoke. “Because, I’m a vampire.” He said, staring straight at me.
