Demetry’s Point of view
I stood in the darkness, staring at the beautiful but frightened girl in front of me. She was probably wondering where my cousin was, but that was the least of my concerns.

She let out shriek and stumbled back a few steps. “Who are you?” she whispered.

I took a few steps closer towards her, until the dim light shone on my face. At that precise moment, she stopped screaming and instead glared at angrily at me. “Need I say more?” I asked, smirking.
“Of course not.” she snapped, still glaring at me. “Where is Ashley?” she demanded.
“She’s with my sister.” I replied casually.
“Why did she leave me here alone with you?”
“Hmmm...That’s a pretty tough question. Why don’t you ask her later when she comes back?”
“That is if she’s ever coming back.” she muttered under her breath as she rolled her eyes.
“I heard that.” I told her. She raised her eyebrows at me and I added, “Vampire trait.”
“Hmph... What are you doing here anyway?” She asked, sounding annoyed.
“You mean here in your room? Or here in this universe where every being has a purpose, except us damned souls since we are not actually al-“
“I’m going out.” she cut me off as she twirled around and started walking towards the main door.

As soon as she turned, I ran and in a blink of an eye, I was standing right in front of her. I guessed I caught her off balance since she nearly knocked into me. Just as she started to fall unsteadily, my hands reached out and I steadied her. Whilst doing so, I pulled even closer, so that our faces were only inches apart. I smiled down at her and looked at her eyes. They were greyer than they were blue now, I wonder what that meant? I thought in my head. I think she held her breath as I could no longer hear her breathing. I let go of her intentionally and in the end, she ended up landing on the floor on her butt. I chuckled as she seemed to snap out of her trance.

“It’s not funny.” She told me as she got back to her feet.
“If you were in my position, I’m sure you would’ve thought it was.” I said.
“Yeah.” she muttered sarcastically. “So, really. What are you doing here? In my room?”
“Nothing. I just wanted to see if you were alright.” I shrugged.
“Right.” She agreed sarcastically. “That was why you let me fall on my butt.”
I felt myself let out a soft chuckle, and noticed that she sent me a look of irritation. “No, I didn’t do that to see if you were alright. I did that, because we were seconds away from kissing.” I explained to her, smirking.
“Excuse me?!” she said, shocked. Her face immediately turned scarlet red and my smirk turned into a smile.
“It’s true. You were practically swaying towards me. Not to mention staring at me.” I reminded her.
“You-you have no proof! I didn’t want to kiss you! You...You egoistical, pompous, vampire!” she said, still blushing.
“Ouch. You just hurt my huge ego.” I said sarcastically, clutching my heart. If he even had one. I heard her think.
“I heard that again.” I said softly this time as I took one step towards her. I was so close to her now, her scent was making me go crazy. “Do you want kiss me now?” I whispered slowly into her ear.
“I...I..” Was all she managed to say.
Before she could say another word, I moved my face so that it was inches away from hers. Her eyes were still wide open, staring into mine. As I closed the distance between us, my eyes closed, and I bet hers did too. I heard her sigh softly and that was my cue to pull back. I broke off our kiss and grinned at her.
“I think I know the answer.” I said.
“Why did you pull back so fast?” she asked, still in a daze
“Well, I wanted to see your reaction.” I told her. “And now I know what you really want.” I said, closing the distance between us again.

In seconds, my lips crashed down onto hers. I kissed her softly and I put my hands around her waist, pulling her closer towards me. She stood still at first, but soon I felt her go soft as she let out a sigh. She kissed me back, and I could feel her fingers in my hair. Just as I started to press harder, a voice interrupted us.

“Five minutes I’m gone, and I come back to find you guys kissing?” A girl’s voice said, feigning hurt, but sounding amused. I stopped kissing her, and I pulled back just a little. I definitely knew who that voice belonged to.

Shaia on the other hand, jumped away from me as though I was diseased or something.

“Ash-Ashley.Um..” She stuttered. My cousin smirked at her then I felt her eyes go to me.

Demetry...You know better than that. She said, smirking at me.
I told you not to interrupt just now Ashley, I growled at her in my mind.
Well, I’m sorry cousin, but I’m on Jake’s side. Besides, she’s a human. You’re a vampire. Get over it.
There was nothing I could say, since I knew she was right. But her scent. It’s so....tempting. Can’t you smell it? I asked.
Of course I can. But unlike you, I’m a female, not a male. Therefore, I don’t have the attraction you feel for her.
Thanks, that really helped me.
I said sarcastically. This is why I wish I were human sometimes. I said, as the memories of my human past flooded into my thoughts.
Well, I don’t. I happen to like my vampire self. She said, sniffing at my words.

Of course she wouldn’t know how it felt like. She had nothing to lose since she was only an inch from death. I on the other hand, I had so much and because of the monster I am, I was forced to leave everything behind.

Alright, get out now. I’m sure Shaia’s tired. She said, smirking at me again.
I glared at her and she added, Unlike vampires, humans have to sleep you know.
Fine.
I snapped, as I ran and jumped out from the window in Ashley’s bathroom.

I ran back to the boy’s dorm, then to my room. Unlike some people, I got the privilege to having the room to myself. It was hard to get people on my side sometimes since the two people who are closest to me are girls. I laid down on the bed and stared blankly into the darkness, hoping tomorrow would be a better day and that Jared would keep away.

Shaia’s Point of View
I stared at Ashley, and then flicked my eyes over to the place that Demetry was standing before he vanished. It was so unfair that vampire’s could travel so fast! And what was it with them, staring at each other and smirking? This is so confusing!

“Ashleyy.....” I whined.
“Yes?” She asked, looking all innocent.
“Why did you come back so fast? And where were you in the first place anyway?” I asked.
“Well, for starters, my cousin said he wanted to talk with you, so I thought, ‘Why not? No harm done’ and I agreed to run a few rounds around the school while he talked to you. But in the distance, I could hear his mind and I sort of knew what was going on. Who knows what might have happen if I didn’t come back?” She said.
“Ho-Do you mean you can read everyone’s minds? As in human and vampire?” I asked.
“Not me. Every vampire can hear the minds of our own kind and other kinds of living things too.” She explained.
“Other kinds of living things?” I echoed.
“Yes.”
“Like....tigers?” I asked, curious.
“Yes.” She said exasperatedly.
“Wow....Freaky” I remarked.
“Not really.” She smirked. “Dinosaurs though, deserve that term.” She added casually.
My eyes widened at this. Dinosaurs?? Oh...My...God... “Are you serious?” I asked her.
She nodded her head at me gravely then turned around quickly.
I stared, confused. Suspicious, I looked at her again, and she seemed to be shaking. “Um..Ashley? Are you okay?” I asked her, patting her on the shoulder.
Then, she turned around and broke into uncontrollable laughter.
“You liar!” I shouted, then joined in the laughter.

After we calmed down, we went our separate ways, smiling to ourselves. I brushed my teeth and washed my face, then came out of the bathroom. Ashley was already sitting on her bed, combing her light brown hair.

“Hey, are girl vampires like mermaids?” I teased.
She stopped combing her hair and gave me a confused look.
I smirked at her. She definitely wouldn’t be able to read my mind because the thought wasn’t in my mind. “Well... You guys have one thing in common.” I said, thoughtfully.
She sighed at me and smiled. “Which is?”
“You both are obsessed with combing your hair.” I smirked.
She laughed and smirked back. “Why, thank you.” She said, flipping her long brown hair.
I plopped down onto the comfortable bed, then sat up to face Ashley who was at the other end of the room. “Question. Do vampires sleep?” I asked, curious.
“Not for a long time. One hour maximum.” She said as she got off her bed to put the brush in the bathroom.
“Really? That is awesome! But don’t you get tired?”
“Nah. Also, we can’t dream like humans do.” She told me.
“You can’t dream?” I asked, immediately feeling bad.
“Nope.” She answered, walking back to the bed.
“Oh.... So are you going to sleep?”
“Definitely not.” She said, screwing up her face as though that sounded like a bad idea. “But you are.” She added.
“Can’t I stay up? There’s just classes tomorrow. Besides, what are you going to do?”
“Nothing.” She said innocently.
“Pftt. Right.” I said, clearly not believing a word of it.
“Believe whatever you want.” She said, shrugging her shoulders as she sent a smirk at my direction.
I stuck my tongue out at her and then dropped down onto the bed.

I was tired anyway. Today could be counted as the most exciting day of my life. To actually know that vampires existed, was really scary and cool at the same time. To know that I was being hunted, it made it so much worse. The lights were still on, but I could feel my lids starting to get heavier. Soon, my eyelids came crashing down, and all I could see was darkness.
