“I don’t have my car today,” Aaron said, as we walked down the sidewalk. I inwardly groaned. I wasn’t in the mood to walk. I just wanted to get home and relax on the pavement.

He brushed his hand repeatedly against mine, giving me butterflies. I glanced over at him and he gave me a small smile. “I hope you’re not mad at me still.” He said, looking around before grabbing my hand. “Because, I do want to show you off,” His fingers slid between mine. “Just not yet.”

“I know…” I sighed, looking at our hands. “I don’t think I’m ready yet anyway.”

“Let’s head back to your house, shall we?” He kissed my head lightly.

“Uh… alright.” I gave in. I didn’t want to rudely invite myself over his house. Yet, I didn’t want him to know that I was stuck sleeping on the sidewalk. We continued our walk, laughing about nothing. I was no longer mad at him… just disappointed.

We got to the end of the sidewalk at my house and I frowned, looking up the path at the front door. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” I mumbled, releasing my hand and turning to face him.

“I can’t come in?” He cocked his head to the side. I can’t even go in.

I shook my head slowly in response, looking down. “Sorry,”

He pouted, kissing my forehead. “Can I have a kiss?” I leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He responded immediately, pressing his lips harder against mine. I let out a small, surprised moan before pulling back.

“Tomorrow,” I smiled slightly and pecked his lips once more. “We can hang out.”

“My house,” He mumbled, leaning down, keeping his lips lingering over mine.

I smiled wider, and slid a hand around to his side. “Bye,” I breathed, pulling back slowly.

“Bye.” He smirked, watching me as I walked backward toward the house.

I woke up and rubbed my eyes tiredly. I was not ready for school, yet I couldn’t wait to see Aaron. I stood up and spit into my hand before rubbing it on a few dirt spots on my shirt. I checked my phone for the time with the little amount of battery left on it. Running my hand through my hair, I began my slow walk to school.

Quickly and sneakily I lifted my arm and took a whiff. I scrunched my nose up and continued walking. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be for two nights out on the sidewalk.

I reached the school eventually and rushed through to the bathroom. I began rinsing my face and washing my hands. I exited quickly, just as a few kids were entering and I headed into one of the classrooms with a teacher who was relatively close to me.

“Excuse me, ma’am. Do you happen to have a piece of gum?” I mumbled, embarrassedly.

“No, I don’t. I’m sorry,” She replied, typing away on her computer. I frowned and headed out of the room. It looked like Aaron wouldn’t be getting kisses any time soon.

I stuffed a hand into my front pocket, just as I crossed the hall into my first period class. I took a seat way in the back, where I always sat. “Look at this little dick.” I looked up to face Tom smirking at me. He wasn’t even in my class. I then looked beside him to see Joe also smirking.

What was this about? It was too early to deal with them. They never actually took time out of their day to torture me. It was usually small little insults.

“We found this,” Tom held up a condom wrapper, smirking. “Near your locker, and we were wondering… why a gay boy like you would need one. Especially, since you’re not going to be having sex anytime soon.”

“That’s yours, Tom.” Aaron said, striding through the room without a care. “I saw eight others in your gym locker. By the way, Bethany number three told me to tell you, she’ll wait in the men’s bathroom for you.” He took a seat beside me, glaring up at the two. “And, that was not a clever prank at all. I don’t even consider that a prank.”

“Alright, pube. Why don’t you skedaddle back to your shitty little town that you came from?” Tom sneered, glowering at Aaron. “If you haven’t noticed, no one wants to be your friend.”

I swallowed, feeling bad for dragging Aaron into this. To my surprise, Aaron began cracking up… full-on-slapping-his-knee-laughing. “Pube!” He choked out between laughs. “Please, just leave, you’re embarrassing yourselves.”

The both of them grumbled in response before exiting the room without another word. I reached over and patted Aaron’s back as he continued choking out laughs. I smiled slightly as he hid his face in my neck. “That was too funny.”

“Mhm,” I murmured, kissing his head before playing with his hair.

“Oh god, Dylan.” He smiled, wrapping his arms around my waist, kissing my shoulder a few times. I looked around the room, biting my lip. This was the most PDA we’ve done… ever.

“Alright, class!” The teacher said loudly, shooting a secret smile over at me. I wasn’t sure what exactly it meant. Maybe it was one of surprise… I shrugged it off. Aaron unwrapped himself from me and faced the front, smiling cutely.

Lunch was uneventful. I sat at the table, chewing on my nails, watching girls flirt with Aaron from afar. It wasn’t fair of me to be jealous… he wasn’t my boyfriend or anything. We just kissed a few times. He told me he was gay, and he made it clear that he was somewhat into me. I hadn’t really put all my thoughts into that yet. But, I was certain that I had his attention.

“Hey, Dylan.” I looked up to find a small, petite girl looking down at me. “How is your day going?” She sat down beside me, clearly noting my widened eyes. “Uh-A-Aaron told me…” She trailed, glancing up at Aaron. “He said you’re,” She darted her eyes from me to Aaron. “He said you needed someone to talk to, while he was held up.”

I frowned deeply, looking down at the table. Why did he send one of his admirers over to talk to me? It wasn’t like she would ever willingly talk to me on a normal occasion. She just wanted into his pants, and would do anything to get that.

I shook my head, sighing. Before getting up, I glanced at the girl and mumbled, “I don’t want to talk to you.” I then stuffed my hand into my front pocket and headed for the cafeteria doors, very aware of Aaron’s eyes on my behind.

“You haven’t eaten all day, babe.” Aaron complained, rummaging through his refrigerator. My heart jumped at the endearment.

“Yes I did,” Lies. All lies.

“And not to be rude,” He continued, completely ignoring me. “But, when did you last take a shower? Or change your clothes for that matter?” He turned to face me, taking in my appearance. I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling insecure.

“I uh…”

“And when did you last sleep? You have bags under your eyes.” He criticized me perpetually. I shrugged my shoulders, looking down.

“Leave him alone, bro.” Izzy came into the kitchen, frowning at her brother. “He looks fine.” She glanced at me, “You look fine,” She reassured. I furrowed my brows, wondering why she was on my side, especially since I definitely did not look fine. I was fully aware of my uncleansed state. Did she know something? Or was she just being nice? Stuffing my hand into my front pocket, I gave them a weak smile.

“Can I use your bathroom?” I barely whispered.

“You don’t have to ask, Dylan.” Izzy rubbed my arm, sympathetically. I shoved past them both and made my way to their bathroom, feeling more and more insecure by the second. I was lost, in a world of ignorance.

I needed new clothes, to brush my teeth, to take a shower, to use deodorant, and to sleep. But, I was unable at the moment. I couldn’t just hop into Aaron’s shower without telling him. I quickly did my business and headed back into the kitchen. “I think I’ll head home,”

“W-Why?” Izzy asked, suddenly looking concerned. “I mean… Why don’t you eat something first?” She rushed around the kitchen, pulling out a bunch of snacks. I looked over at Aaron, raising an eyebrow. He walked slowly over to me and kissed the greasy mop on top of my head.

“Take a shower. Clean clothes are the top shelf of my drawer.” I suddenly felt as if everyone in the room knew something I didn’t.

“I’m going home,” I pulled out of his arms and glanced between the two. “I-I’ll shower and eat.”

“Dylan…” Aaron looked scared, “please don’t go yet.” I groaned and leaned against the counter.

“Listen!” Izzy hissed as Dylan made his way down the hallway. I turned my head towards her, my eyes never leaving his ass until he was out of sight. Damn, he has a nice butt. “Aaron! This is important.” I raised my eyebrows in attempt to say ‘go on.’ She sighed dramatically, rolling her eyes. “I know his brother… Jared.” I nodded, my interest piqued. “He’s in my math class… and we talk. He started talking to his friend, about… well, about Dylan. And I couldn’t help but listen. He was laughing and joking around. Then his friend said something like, ‘he sleeps outside like a dog?’” She spoke quickly in a hushed tone. “I don’t know exactly what he meant… but, I could make some guesses.”

I looked down at my shoes, frowning. That would make sense… considering his clothes and stench. My heart felt heavy; the thought of Dylan, alone, on the sidewalk, with no food or shelter. It was unnerving. My poor baby.

Why would they kick him out? He didn’t do anything wrong… did he? Or am I misinterpreting Dylan. Is he really a bad seed? Or maybe Jared and his friend weren’t talking about Dylan and my sister misheard.

“I think I’ll head home,” I turned to Dylan’s voice, panic filling in my chest. He couldn’t go home. He didn’t have a home.
