Around here, no one knows what surviving means any more. All they care about is staying alive. That's all they want; and I can sympathize, but it's about surviving.
Know this: Living and Surviving are two completely different things. Can I stress that any further?
It's the year 2022. I'm a 23 year old woman with a 17 year old following me around like a lost puppy dog. I can't say I blame the poor kid, he's got no one else to go to. Besides, he's got problems I can help him with. I'm a doctor, what can I say? It's my job after all. I've grown fond of his company over the years, anyway.
I walked through the burnt down woods, kicking and stepping over the decaying bodies that covered the land. I heard slight groaning behind me, and sighed.
"Jason! I can't focus with you're annoying whines and groans!" He looked at me with big glossy green eyes.
"B-but... Mia, they're decaying! It smells like shit everywhere!" He whined, putting emphasis on 'everywhere'. Eh... I can't say I blame him. It does smell...
"Shut up! We don't have much further to walk until we get to your girlfriend's house. So zip your lips before I do." I gave him a quick glare before turning back around. I rolled my eyes when I heard him mumble something under his breath. What a whiner... I can't believe I put up with this crap for seven years.
Seven years have already past since I found Jason lying on his living room floor in his parents decaying bloody arms. I remember the night vividly, like it was only seconds ago.
I shook my head, and looked ahead at the city. I could feel Jason's eyes stare straight through me. I turned my head to look at him. His eyes were filled of sadness, and I felt like a complete idiot that I can't do anything about it. He's sad because his girlfriend may or may not be alive still. Honestly, if she were to still be alive, she may not have much time left. And if she were to not be alive...
"Come on, Mia. Jenna lives on the other side of the city." I stared him down with those cold black eyes of mine.
"Are you serious? We may not be able to make it if you say she's on the other side of the whole damn city!" I projected. He looked at me, his eyes getting serious for a split second before they turned playful. I took a step back in slight fear of what was going through that teenaged boy mind of his.
There's no telling what that boy has in mind.
