Prologue:

It was just your normal bitter January afternoon.

“Oh God, I landed on yours! GOD! YOU’RE RUNNING ME INTO THE GROUND HERE!”

We were locked in combat.

“Haha, 120 bucks, pay up kid!”

“Jayme, I think you’re a dirty cheater!” My best friend Kara roared. We were locked in an intense game of Monopoly.

“Kara, honey, you keep right on thinking that. Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be wrong, too.” I grinned at my not-so-witty comeback. She replied with a groan.

“Hey, hey, ladies, calm down! We’re all friends here. Jayme is just a good player, is all. No need to get our panties in a wad!” Our friend Mikey chimed in.

“OUR panties? You mean you wear them too?” Kara began laughing hysterically.

“Oh… you know what I mean! You know-“ Mikey was suddenly interrupted by the beep of the school’s intercom system.

Our principal came over the intercom. “Students, a recent report from the National Weather Service says that a huge blizzard is coming into our area. In central Kentucky, it dropped as much as 2 and a half feet of snow. Now, do not panic, but with the day dwindling to and end and the storm very close to us, there is a chance you will all have to stay here overnight. We’re not being selfish here, we’re thinking about the well-being of YOU – we don’t want anyone out in this storm. I will make more announcements as I get them.”

Groans erupted all across the room.

“Staying at SCHOOL? UGH!”

“My mom can come get me, I ain’t stayin’ here!”

Unlike others, I was a bit excited. I liked it when something happened to mix up a boring, monotonous day.

“Guys, this is gonna be epic!” I cheered to my friends.

But would it really?
