Re: Introduce yourself!

I think I'm going to find myself at home here. It feels like my kind of place.

I'm Michael Allen. I joined the group because I wanted to enter the contest where I put readers into the villain's mind. I think I can do that. We'll have to see. Either way, I love writing challenges. If readers like my work, that's all that matters, whether I win or lose.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Angela. I'm not a newbie when it comes to writing on a platform, but I wanted to branch out a little.

1. I'm into anything thrilling or gory, but I love to dabble in psychological horror too. My writing reflects all of these topics.
2. My favorite author in this genre is Stephen King, I have read most of his major works and have been reading him since I was 12.
3. I can't sleep with the lights off!
4. I don't write all the time, but when I do, it's a tidal wave of insanity.

It's wonderful to meet all of you!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Just joined the house and am very happy to begin! I've been a fan of dark fantasy since I was a kid and I loved the old Universal type monsters, Dracula, Frankenstein ect. Clive Barker, Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft are a few of my favorite authors and I've been inspired by their writing styles. I'm inclined to write horror short stories and have done a bit of horror poetry. It's nice to meet you all and I'm looking forward to participating here.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone, I'm Aaron.

I love to write short fiction, usually horror or sci-fi.  When writing horror I like psychological stories and stories about monsters the best, but I'll dabble in a little bit of everything.  My number one favorite author is Stephen King, and my silly fact is that I built a "Dark Tower" bookshelf out of 3 other bookshelves to display my collection.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi thanks for the invite to the house. I have been writing for a few years and have had my first short story published on the e-magazine, CreepyPasta.com

I prefer writing short stories such as supernatural/psychological thrillers, demons, folklore, and I like adding a 'twist' to a story whether its a bit of humor or  a combination of genres.

My favorite author is JRR Tolkein

Something silly- my Shi Tzu loves to sit on the futon by my desk and watch me type

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi!
I'm a newbie here, but not to writing. I started getting serious about it ten years ago. I wrote a number of pilot scripts that did well in contests, but went no further. A television writing guru suggested I write novels as a way of breaking in. 'Turns out I really like novels. I've published three novels so far with a small publisher and self-published a novella. All horror. I also dabble in short stories. Hollywood hasn't come knocking yet, but I'm happy as is.
1. My favorite genres to write are supernatural horror & mystery
2. I have a lot of favorite authors, so it's impossible to nail down one, many are in other genres. Here are some of my faves: Bernard Cornwell, Ken Follette, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, John Steinbeck, Stephen King & Walter Mosley
3. As a boy, I wanted to be a werewolf!
4. I just finished a sequel to my novella (Witch Ever Way You Go) and am writing a novella about an early supernatural investigation by the Eidola Project (a 19th century team of ghost hunters who are the subject of my first three novels).
Best wishes,
Bob

Re: Introduce yourself!

Sartorius here:

1. Horror, but also write crime/mystery on occasion. (I felt lucky to win the recent Booksie POV Villain contest with my "Aberrant Ambition Noir" featuring the POV of a clever lady criminal)

2. Poe, Lovecraft, King, Barker, Rice, Jackson, Bradbury...to name a few.

3. Sometimes I awaken in the middle of the night with a story idea, write it down on a notepad, then can't read what I've written in the morning, lol. Also practice lucid dreaming (being conscious of the dream state while asleep - opens up a whole new world).

4. My short story, "The Missing Case of the Missing Case" has just been published in the anthology, "Murder! Mystery! Mayhem!" - available on Amazon. In my totally unbiased opinion, it's a very good book, lol! Also, just today I was notified my short story of horror, "The Ancient Forest Terror of Lucid Realms", was accepted for inclusion in the upcoming "Deep in the Woods" anthology by Sirens Call Publications. You'll notice I worked the lucid dream angle in - the protagonist becomes a practitioner after reading a book on the subject by a Stanford University professor - there is actually such a research book...that's how I became interested. I'm currently working on a podcast script (horror) revolving around Gullah Creole folklore in South Carolina circa 1890s and I've just finished a new song called "Feeling Left Out" - a comedic piece about the travails of being left handed. Most of my songs are funny; my satirical "A Fart is the Best Response" was judged a finalist in the 2020 USA Songwriting Competition and is available on all the conventional venues like Amazon, Apple Music Spotify, etc.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello! I am so glad to meet at last like - minded people and I hope future friends here!
My name is Dmitrij, I am from Russia. I like writing in the genres of mystics, horror, dystopia, thiller. Adore everything, which is even slightly connected with Gothic.
2. My favourite author is, of course, Howard Lovecraft. I adore his style of submerging readers into the horror world
3. To get inspiration, sometimes I go alone in the old part of my town or in the little forest near it, hugging the trees. Yes, I am a bit weird
4. I have already my main novel of life called "The Dark Cults". There are plenty of other stories you can see on my page. Nowadays I am writting short English/ French/German/ Spanish/ Russian horror/ mystic/ thriller verses. I adore studying different languages as well

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello everyone! I hope you are well.

I am just some jackass who likes to read - and write - "wierd fiction" (horror, dark fantasy, and SciFi). I hope to enjoy reading a whole bunch of that here, and I certainly some of you may enjoy reading mine.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Welcome Le.;

Editing is always fun . . . going from macro to micro: Developmental, Line, Copyediting, and last, but not least, Proofreading. I've found Molly McCowan's guidebooks to be an excellent source for improving self-editing skills.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Welcome Vigo;

I have a horror story, 'Boo Hag', being published in an upcoming anthology: From the Yonder Volume IV. My creation is based on Gullah Creole folklore; folklore I was exposed to while on a business trip to Charleston, SC, a while ago; cultural roots can be traced back to Sierra Leone in Africa. Research for the tale was a bit extensive in that I endeavored to learn more about the Gullah Creole language; also, the setting takes place in the early 1890s so I wanted to ensure the period's way of life, etc., were as accurate as possible during that period in the Lowcountry.

Amy's writing prompts are fun, catalyzing creativity . . . although I haven't seen any lately.
