The Dutch vessel 'The Ourang Medan' was said to have been found adrift around June 1947, after a distress signal was sent out by one of the crewmen. One ship that received the SOS 'The Silver Star' raced to the scene to provide assistance... But every effort to raise the crew proved fruitless. They eventually boarded the ship, to discover the bodies of all the crew including the captain dead. They were found lying on their backs, looking up towards the sky with their eyes and mouths wide open and their arms outstretched, as if reaching out for something. The crew of the Silver Star were planning to tow the ship back to land, but a fire broke out and the ship was left to the grips of the ocean. The Ourang Medan exploded and sank, taking with it any evidence that might have possibly shed light on this ill-fated ghost ship. What really happened here? Some speculate that the Ourang Medan was carrying illicit chemicals like 'Nitro-glycerine' and 'Potassium Cyanide,' and when these chemicals came together with the salt water; it poisoned the crew and caused the after explosion. Others speculate that UFO's or other paranormal occurrences might have been involved in the demise of the Ourang Medan and its crew. What really happened? We'll never truly know now that the deep, dark waters of the ocean have forever engulfed the ship to its eternal grave. Was the ship real? Or was its existence simply all part of folklore?
