Despite some progress in different sectors including women’s rights after the fall of Taliban regime, Afghanistan is still one of the high-ranked country in violence against women? Women face domestic violence, physical abuses, force marriage, self-immolation and more. it happens in all parts of Afghanistan, mostly in rural areas where education status is very low.
Despite some progress in law and justice sector, we are still witness of lack in access to justice sector. In other side force marriage is also one of the biggest factor that both men and women are suffering from. According to latest research 85% of women in Afghanistan get married before their teenage birthday. BAD (a traditional exchange marriage from opposite side) is also one of the factors that both men and women are suffering from.
As literacy and economy status is very low, men don’t give any value for women and her wishes, and there is no self-dignity for them in general, thus many families decide to sell their daughters in exchange of high amount of money.
This is a historical refresher especially about Americans and Filipinos who were friends and allies in WW2 70 years ago. It is a reminder to our young generation of the joint sacrifice by the previous American and Filipino generation to get where we are today. With present Pacific events instigated by a domineering and imperturbable China pushing its territorial reclamations of islands in the China Sea today, then and now it reminds the Philippines the paramount importance of relations and basic trust with the United States of America.
At the same time for many young Filipinos who never wave the flag during their independence days or commemorative days around September 2--unlike in Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Korea or China where holidays observe this important anniversary--this reminder could restore their pride in knowing the Filipino's colonial history of bravery & resistance with their American brothers who gave them independence after this horrific war.
Today we were gathered at the War Memorial in a hamlet called Kappel, which belongs to Freiburg, for it's Volkstrauertag, the day the people of Germany think and pray for the sons of Kappel (and other hamlets, town and cities) who fell in the two Great Wars. The World War I was fought 100 years ago.
