Its hard to imagine I survived for forty years as a public-school teacher with experience working in urban areas, as well as rural. I began teaching in the late 1970’s after graduating from college. Back then, teaching was an honorable profession, one that brought some respect. Over the years, since I’ve had first-hand experience, respect for teachers has become almost obsolete. Now, it’s all about survival and hoping you can handle the unexpected. I’ve been intimidated, harassed, threatened, and I’ve had a gun pointed at my face. I’ve learned that a teacher’s safety is not a priority, and since that is so, the students are at-risk, too. By sharing my story, I hope that positive change can come about for the good of all. Now is the time for change, because it will only get worse. Society must put a stop to how teachers are treated, so that students can learn.

My story continues as being a mother, while employed as a public-school teacher, raising three special-needs children (each with a different disability.)

December 5, 1961, Dr. Frantz Fanon, a.k.a., Ibrahim Fanon, psychiatrist from Martinique, Algerian revolutionary, author of The Wretched of the Earth, is lying in a hospital bed in room 37 of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. He first went to Moscow for treatment but was told that NIH was the preeminent facility for his type of cancer. He’s thirty-six years old. The day of his death on December 6, he’s reflecting on what his revolutionary activities have taught him.

In 1985 I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. I documented the journey in a series of spiral notebooks. It took six months to complete the trail and this memoir is based on my journal entries and the memories they spark.

Prologue. I do not swear. That is to say, I do not commit acting. I do not commit speaking. And, I do not commit writing. To commit acting is to make an act unfit for an audience to make use ot it in a setting which vary with the one of original actor. To commit speaking is to make a speech unfit for an audience to use it in a setting which is very different from the one of original speaker. To commit writing is to make a text, a write_up or a handwriting unfit for an audience to use it in a setting which isn't the one of original writer. The instruction, "Do not swear." is to me, the original format we put a copyright law in place. I do not commit name. I do not commit word. I do not commit noun. And, I do not commit substance . I observe this when performing an act, making a speech or writing an account. It helps me to like my future. Indeed, it makes me like an event. One which is to come to pass. True. Why an event occurs is beyond guess. It'll be impolite of me to commit name, word, noun or substance simply because I want to communicate an information to an audience. It'll be rude. Even, irresponsible. In 1982 until 1985, I keep knowing that the day arrives and I'll marry. It's certain to me. Yet, I let it be an event which is free to happen. Our wedding in 1997 is to come on like a gift from an above. Kone and I are to sit and be celebrants. And also, members of a high table. Page 0.
