Wasan was born and raised in Palestine. She was brought up in a highly educated household with a father who was politically active and outspoken for the civil rights of Palestinians through non-violent action. This upbringing, faith, family, and friends have instilled in her a desire to motivate others to do good and to advance their opportunities. Her exposure to diversity at a young age has also driven Wasan to seek understanding and communication with the different members of society. A bachelors in Medical Technology and a masters in Childhood Special Education have given her the tools necessary to approach the technical and humanitarian side of all issues. These skills have allowed her to use science and art to design programs to build understanding and communication between people of all ages and backgrounds. She has worked as a volunteer at area elementary schools, board member of MyDeen Center and the Central Valley Islamic Council, and has worked with various charitable efforts in the Fresno area to build support and understanding of the most vulnerable segments of our society. Wasan’s most recent contribution has been to support and seek justice for Syrian Refugees escaping their war-torn nation. She would like to further lend her support to the community by advancing her academic accomplishments and pursuing a Doctorate in Counseling and hopes to publish on the suffering of women and children in the world.

A welcome home to a true hero. "JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- "Thank you for being here!" Tyler Southern said to a crowd of thousands surrounding his home as he returned from Afghanistan. Southern, a U.S. Marine, had both legs and one arm taken by an explosive device while he was serving in the war on terror in May. A police and motorcycle escort met Marine Cpl. Tyler Southern at the Georgia state line and ushered him back to his home in Mandarin. Friends and family lined the streets starting at the Interstate 295 off ramp and extending to Gathering Oaks Drive to cheer on the motorcade staring at about 4:30. It was a surprise, and Southern couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he returned home to a sea of red, white and blue. The crowd cheered "U.S.A.!" as he came out of the garage to say hello, then serenaded him with "Happy Birthday." Southern turns 21 Sunday. He's been receiving treatment for his injuries from Bethesda Medical Center in Maryland." The pictures are in backwards order but that's not what matters.
