Mount Krakatoa

Location

Mount krakatoa is a volcanic island located in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The longitude is 6.1021 degrees S and the latitude is 105.4230 degrees E. It is closer to Sumatra but you can see the island from the coast of Java.

Human Interaction

The island has always been inhabited but it has affected the world with its eruption. The eruption affected the climate and caused temperatures to drop all over the world. The temperatures drop because the thick ash clouds spread around the earth and blocked the sunlight so the temperatures dropped. Also, because of the eruption, there was heavy ashfall which made it impossible to breathe in so people with asthma would struggle with breathing.

Wildlife Interaction

After the eruption in 1883, the only life form that was found microscopic spiders. It didn’t take long for plants to reform and the first life form back on the islands was blue-green algae. Also wind had carried fern spores on to the island which created ferns. Because of the volcanic ash, it helped fertile the soil which plants grew. Now it has over 500 species of plants and animals. These animals include butterflies, birds, land mollusks, bats and reptiles.
