It was dark, there, in your shadow
My only sympathiser was the night,
And your footsteps are hard to follow
They dry up like the light

Your face is like a raindrop
But no-one ever sees
No one ever tries to find
How your gentle drops can rain on me

And now
I’ve had enough
Of this stupid stuff
That you insist I die of

And now
I am tired
And your heart of barbed wire
Don’t want to be a part of

No length of bandage can heal
Every prick your needle made me feel

It was long, there, in your presence
It was longer than I fought
And I was hiding from all the daggers
That I could have fought

Your eyes are like river stones
But no-one can ever know
The things you did to get them
No, that’s buried deep below

And now
I’m coming out
Of this chesty drought
That was brought on by your kiss

And now
You’ll be alone
With your heart of grey stone
I don’t want to be a part of this

It was dark, there, in your shadow…
