Before my children’s children,
I lived in green fields wild,
With the sun on my back
And Valentina at my side,

Her eyes were a storm
In grey and in hazel,
Her lips were ablaze,
Glistening like a jewel,

And when, for one minute,
My eyes did stray away,
She fell through the water,
In hazel and grey,

I turned back to hold her,
But I was too late,
A white water torrent
Took her down from this place,

I married another
But was too broken to say,
That my second love was not my real love,
In hazel and grey,

Eras have gone
And decades have passed,
And she still haunts my dreams
From her prison of foamy glass,

She steps from the water,
Hands around my head,
She kisses me coldly,
With jewelled lips of red,

When I wake I am crying
For I could have been there that day,
When Valentina fell quietly,
In hazel and grey
