Promoting The Classics
By Faisal Fransu
In the first place, what is a classic? There are many views regarding what a classic is. However, there is no right or wrong view concerning what a classic is. In my opinion, a classic is a book that was published in the early 1900 and before. An example of this would be ‘The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz,’ which was written by L. Frank Baum and published in 1900. Another great book from the passed is ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress,’ which was written by John Bunyan and published in 1678. Most fairy tales are also classic stories. Sadly, the wonderful books of the past centuries have been forgotten. There are countless great classic novels out there. Search and you’ll find them. Most of the novels that I read are classics. I find them much better than modern stories.
Classic novels do not use bad language frequently. If you were to look carefully in a modern novel, especially the self-published ones, you’ll see a great deal of swearing, cursing and use of bad language. The books of the passed centuries use a cleaner language than today’s books. Please don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying that all modern books are bad.
Secondly, classic novels have a little bit of godliness in them, which is not seen in most modern novels. Classic novels talk a great deal about saying your prayers, going to church on Sundays, etc. Modern novels, however, ignore these things entirely.
Another reason why I promote classic novels is because they are much easier to find than modern ones. A majority of modern novels are under copyright, which makes it difficult for the visually impaired people to find them in ebook format. For this reason, I read classic novels, because there are many websites that offer classic ebooks for free.
Finally, whenever I read a classic novel, I see some kind of beauty that is not found in the modern books. There are countless great books that have been forgotten in this century. Fairy tales are probably the best stories from the past that are worth reading. I encourage you to start reading them!
The best website for classic ebooks for free is the Project Gutenberg, which, as of now, offers over 42 thousand ebooks. The website is:
