You spent the last 8 hours alone with your thoughts wondering why you weren’t good enough for that mysterious lady. After beating yourself up, you felt hopeless and like you weren’t worth anything. After what felt like an eternity, the man came back out to the car and sighed big. “What a long day,” he mumbled. You felt relieved to see him again but worried about where he might take you. You drive around for a little while and eventually come to a stop. He grabs you by the handle once again, but this time, you know this place! This is where you came from!

This all started yesterday in this same place you knew as home. You were comfortable in the computer department at Best Buy. You had gotten to see lots of customers throughout the months. This was a good and bad thing. Good in the way that you got to see others and hear all of the good things they had to say about you, and bad in the way that you could hear all of the reasons why they decided not to buy you. It took a toll on your confidence and just grew your want to be bought even more. You saw the other models being bought, and even the computers of your same model. Just not you.

You didn’t know what the difference between you or the other models was. You had this impression that you were ugly because you weren’t an ‘apple,’ whatever that meant. Most of the time someone would come in the store, you noticed they asked for an ‘apple’ and nothing else. Why was that? Why didn’t they want you? You grew to hate your name. “ Dell, what does that even mean?” you would think to yourself. Why doesn’t anyone want you? Was it because of how you looked? Or your name?

Everything changed when a tall, slender man came in. He approached a sales associate and told him that he was looking to buy a computer for his wife. Big screen, lots of memory, and a 4k screen were his only requirements. He mentioned that he wanted to buy this for his wife because her job was starting to become more and more serious, and he figured that she would eventually like to start working from home. Apparently, you were everything he was looking for. You felt conflicted about how to feel because the man was mentioning how expensive you are. He took a deep breath, and said, “this is the one.”

This mysterious man took you out to his car, and you drove around and arrived at what looked like a fast food drive-through. The man looked in the backseat and asked, “do you want anything?” He paused, then followed with, “I’m just kidding, you can’t eat.” And laughed to himself. “What a guy..” you thought.

After he got his food, you drove around for a little while longer until you arrived at an apartment complex. He grabbed you by the handle on top of your box and started up the stairs. It felt like forever until he finally arrived at a door. He knocked, and a beautiful woman answered. She let him in, and immediately questioned, “what is that?”

“I got you a gift!” He answered.

“I don’t need a computer. I have no use for it.”

“You don’t like it?”

“It’s like you don’t even pay attention. I told you I wanted a new stove. Can the computer cook casseroles?”

“For the money I paid, it should.” He joked.

“This isn’t funny, take it back tomorrow and try again.”

The man sat you down at the beginning of the hallway, and that’s where you stayed, in your box, all night. In the morning, the man grabbed you by the same handle and took you back to the same car that you came from. From there, you drove for longer than you did the previous day and sat in the car for 8 hours. “What could he possibly be doing?” You thought to yourself.

The man set you on the counter and conversed with the man behind the counter, and the man behind the counter took you to the back warehouse, stuck a sticker on you that said ‘25% off! Open Box.’ Confused, you didn’t really understand what this meant, but you did notice that you are in a different place than you were before. This time around, you’re on a shelf with other computers, all that said the same thing as you. Was this the end?
