I remember
Oh do I remember
A better time
.
When
.
The branches of trees
Blew through the wind
.
When the bottom of the ocean was the top of the sky
And fish could fly
.
We thought heaven lay at the bottom of the sea
But when we dove, we only found whale carcasses
.
I remember
Oh do I remember
A lighter time
.
When
.
The only planes were desert plains
And it was quiet
.
When the sky passed across the clouds
And time stood still
.
We saw mirages in the distance
But knew not to fall for God's tricks
.
I remember
Oh do I remember
A simpler time
.
When
.
Your white hair didn’t blow in my face
When I tried to look around
.
When everything was clear and untainted
Not broken and worthless like you made it
.
You have crusted like old toothpaste
Onto my stainless steel soul
.
I remember
Oh do I remember
.
A time worth remembering
