A cry of despair

in a night of longing

the echo much lonelier than that, which bore it

rushing onward to forever closing doors

never to be free

just fading away to nothing

trying desperately to hold on to the vigor of youth

Pity, that its plight is terminal

Bah! what concern is it of mine?

If it disappears, there are others

but the melody is forever changed

dwindling in intensity and variety

its indistinguishable nuances

falter and become painful to look at

A cry of despair

in a night of longing

We hear it; yeah, we hear it

Too bad we don't understand
