E-Learning

E-learning is transforming the student experience; with relevant, self-managed and self-paced studying, students find it easier to enjoy academics and excel at it. As a person who has experienced both e-learning and conventional learning, I can confidently state that e-learning or online education is certainly more effective. It helps me to manage my schedule and gives me greater control over it. Moreover, it also allows me to study when and wherever I want; therefore, I do not depend on the teacher to learn. In a school, there is also an opportunity for a student to be side-tracked and indulge in the negative groups, and at a tender age, the student is at great risk of adopting negative habits. However, due to misconceptions, people are hesitant to exercise unconventional methods of learning that have been proven more effective and give the student a brighter future. Hence, it is necessary to provide adequate information to avoid any misconceptions that may arise.

Online education or e-learning is overwhelmingly advantageous when compared to traditional learning. E-learning is much more affordable at just $1,000 on average per year; compare that to an average of $10,000 per year for public schools and the difference is evident! Nevertheless, the most common of these advantages is flexibility. Lessons in traditional schools are scheduled and the students only get to spend an allotted time on a subject. But students who practice e-learning can focus and spend more energy where it is demanded. Moreover, students have an array of options when it comes to choosing subjects.

Homeschooling also gives parents more control over their children’s academics, which allows parents to understand their children’s levels and skills clearly and make calculated decisions for a better future. Furthermore, children with learning disabilities are greatly benefited by homeschooling programs as most homeschooling services have tailored courses for children who suffer from various disabilities. Under the supervision of parents, children are monitored better. Therefore, a special needs student suffers fewer inconveniences. E-learning is a more efficient method of learning as the student to teacher ratio is drastically smaller compared to a traditional classroom where distractions are present at every table in the class. Due to this, studies conducted by the Educational Resources Informational Centre (ERIC) suggest that homeschooled students obtain significantly higher grades. E-learning also extends to post-graduate courses that are easily available and require notably fewer resources, time and energy.

Many people are hesitant to opt for digital learning because they believe that their child needs a conventional school to obtain high social standards. However, this is not the case as the best social development for a child comes through learning from adults who desire the best for them. At a young age, children tend to duplicate the behaviors of other people; hence, it is common for conventional students to adopt negative habits. Statistics state that over 45% of students between ages 14 and 19, who attend public schools, have been tested positive for drug use. This figure is substantially greater when compared to homeschooled students. Homeschooled students are well-mannered and are better characters as they practice what is taught to them by their parents and replicate the behaviors a parent exhibits to their children. Therefore, in a home-school, a child always grows up knowing their family values and cultural practices.

In conclusion, e-learning is often overlooked because of misconceptions and does not receive the appreciation it truly deserves. It gives students greater control over their plans and aids them in developing their expertise. It also provides flexible and desirable programs for non-conventional students. Moreover, it keeps them away from negative influences and results in providing better social standards. Unlike traditional learning, it allows children of different abilities to cope with their academics and enables them to grow at their own pace. E-learning or digital learning is undoubtedly more efficient and simply better when compared to other traditional methods of education. I hope that e-learning grows at a faster pace and becomes the future of the educational system.
