Just a short paragraph of the moment a person knows they will die.

There  were two things that thwarted my escape. The first was the searing agony which coursed down the left side of my body, the second was the big heavy wooden doors which slammed shut, blocking any light from entering. Through the candles i could see a figure moving steadily towards me, with a knife which glinted silver in the dimly lit room. This was the moment i knew i was going to die.
