Sixteen candles
shine too bright,
blinding her expectations
and burning her dreams.
Time flies fast
when you’re lost in yourself,
too busy wishing
to make wishes come true.
Life hits hard
as sixteen flames dance
before innocent eyes.
it slows down for no one,
not ever her,
though she tells herself otherwise.
A turning point,
she says,
a call to truth.
This is the moment I change
my silly ways
and I live like I’m actually alive.
A shimmer of a heart shadow
dares to ask,
Is this the time
you actually listen to yourself,
or is it just another
empty dream
you won’t wake up to?
