The elevator was broken
on the rock-bottom floor.
So I took the stairs.
One step at a time,
up eighty-nine flights,
all the way to the top.
Tripping more times
than even I can count,
but that is to be expected.
But I made it
I did.
Against all of my own doubts.
With confidence and pride,
I stand high above the world,
knowing the struggles I overcame,
knowing all would be okay…
Then I fell.
Or did you push me?
