My twist on a villanelle, I decided not to rhyme the 2nd lines in each stanza because I liked the way it sounded without rhyming.

What Is Broken

Mend what is broken, atone for what is past you find,
Where doubt is found opportunity lies,
Refine through experience leave dismal behind.

Let not strain consume your mind,
Take what you can grasp,
Mend what is broken, atone for what is past you find.

A wall of commitment and responsibility may bind,
Only you may engender your own hopelessness,
Refine through experience leave dismal behind.

Remembrance of the day when the sun had not shined,
In the end we stand alone, we do not
Mend what is broken, atone for what is past we find.

Mistakes to you will not be kind,
So learn from them and learn from learnéd past,
Refine through experience leave dismal behind.

Just keep in mind,
That when hardship arises I close my eyes and tell myself:
Mend what is broken, atone for what is past I find,
Refine through experience leave dismal behind.
