JIOKU

Jioku – A person’s escape from reality to his own Wonderland. But, the ‘Wonder’ is not found within the land, only fear and death. Only I can change that and change that I shall.

Chapter 1

Hello Jioku!

Jioku, a long time away and a well deserved arrival.

“I’m back my friend”. Jioku has changed a great deal since I had first laid my eyes upon it. So much has happened since being in the ‘Homeland’ and I have awaited this return for a long time. I had not been in the ‘Homeland’ for a long time. Or maybe, just maybe, Jioku is and always has been my one true ‘Homeland’. This can only be told through time and nothing else.

Jioku has transformed into an almighty baron wasteland since being away. The once green, luscious grass that had overwhelmed the land had gone, leaving behind a filthy mixture of dirt and gravel. The once tall and beautiful trees had been burned down to a crisp, making the Ragdan Forest seem only like a place of death. I can not see or hear any living inhabitants to give me a single sign of life here with me.

“I guess it’s just me then”. I started to slowly venture through Ragdan Forest, only to hear the ‘crack’ of each fallen and burnt branch in which I was stepping upon. I dazed upon the sun setting in the distant west when suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a figure run in between the trees. Someone or something has been here, watching me this whole time from afar.

“Hello!” I shouted.

“I know you’re there. I won’t hurt you!” Awaiting a reply, I stand ready for an encounter with this ‘Thing’ I had seen.

“SNAP!” I quickly swing myself around at the sound of a tree branch snapping behind me to be left staring at nothing but burnt trees and dirt. My heart now starts racing. Faster and faster and the adrenaline and fear is pumped around my body. I frantically start running into the darkness of the forest. I gain more speed each second as I hear the steps of this ‘Thing’ behind me. I want to take a quick glance behind me but I’m afraid that this may slow me down. I run and run, hearing snarls and growls from behind, making me run faster than I ever thought I could. The adrenaline soon started to overpower my body. With the confidence building up inside me, I clenched my fists, span my body around and stood still, awaiting for this encounter. I couldn’t believe what my eyes had laid upon me. My fists slowly started to un-clench as I stood, un-aware of what was happening. There was nothing there? What was I running from? Was my imagination playing tricks on me? I stood, still my heart racing yet I knew I had nothing to fear. I took a deep breath, gradually letting the adrenaline flow out of my body. I was safe now. It was only my imagination. Or was it? Am I really safe? Then, I felt a release of air on my right shoulder. I knew this ‘Thing’ was behind me. I was not safe. I slowly turned around only for my eyes to unravel this ‘Thing’. Something only nightmares could explain and I was standing right in front of it.
