When I got the letter accepting me into a prostigous academic program I was so happy I had to write a poem about it!

The Letter
I received a letter today. Telling me I was good enough,
Telling me I exceeded the average. That I was better then it.
It said I would be honored and separated. But it would be tough,
That not everyone with good grades could do it. It might not be my fit.

The letter had a list of things I would have to do. Courses I had to take,
Certain levels: a language, Advanced English, starting next year.
I had to set my life aside if I wanted it, I could not fake,
It all wouldn’t come at once; I would probably shed many a tear.

This letter said I needed a certain grade point average, no C’s,
In exchange I would get a special sticker on my diploma, a special robe.
My parents were excited, honored, and even though it would not have fees,
They asked me if I was serious about Ivy League; that would cost a load!

The letter was serious, even the envelope was firm,
Telling me this wasn’t playtime, I had to work.
But I was ready to learn,
And I wouldn’t have my face covered with a smirk.

This letter was the beginning; I knew it could happen,
I knew I was good enough.
So wherever I went, Princeton, Yale, I wouldn’t need a second opinion,
I knew I could do it, I had the stuff.

The letter was the beginning of my educational life,
That one letter let my confidence soar.
I COULD do it; I was at a new height,
I wasn’t the only one who thought I could do it anymore
