The Town

In the town I used to know,

It was never ominous but rather bold.

But now I look back at the streets,

And try to stand the blistering cold.

The town was lively,

Night and day.

With people laughing,

Kids at play.

I look back,

the market place I should see.

And walk in the place,

My old school used to be.

The ashes burn my eyes,

As they float in the air.

Telling a tale,

Of death and despair.

And now I think,

It was not fair.

If they all died,

Shouldn’t I have been there?
