Some tell me embrace the light
The fun, the joy, and the hope it entails
What fun it is to play, to play
Why sit inside with tears on my face?

The laughter calls from out my window
The children play in the warm sunlight
Come play with us, the call, they call
Come be our friend and dry your tears

But my parents fear the light
It burns your skin, they’ll tell me again
It is so hot, like fire, like fire
They tried to teach me to hate the light

I will admit the darkness cools
It sooths my memories and breath
I swim into its waters, and soar, and soar
But my parents hate the darkness more

It tempts the senses, they scream and they cry
If you follow it, you’ll surely die
They moan, giving me scars, giving me scars
They lock my room and throw away the key

So here I am, stuck between the two
The joy in the light and the coolness of the gloom
I’m not allowed to choose, to choose
And it’s me my parents fear to loose
