Gate` Gate`

*

there may be a space or one tiny crack

a minute small place where the looping comes back.

the round and round texture of wrestling winds

chimes me right out and back again.

~

I recollect meadows

as a child I did wander

picking fresh flowers

along paths I would ponder.

My head in the clouds

and senses gone wild,

Oh the magic and nurture

instilled in a child!

~

Once on a journey I watched daffodils sway

Such beauty I thought in one precious day

I sat down beside them and low and behold

The phrase a young daffodil silently told:

'Gate`, gate`,

paragate`,

parasamgate`

bodi svaha'

As a child the phrase was sung to my heart

As I grew the message would slowly depart.

But now and again I remember it clear

and feel the vibrations in my inner ear:

'Gate`, gate`,

paragate`

parasamgate`

bodi svaha'

translated:

(gone, gone,

gone beyond,

gone completely beyond

praise to be awake)

*

time stood still upon a daffodil

upon a daffodil one day*
