Here I tread the barren ground

Along the river glassed with ice

Beside myself yet not alone

I have made the journey thrice

Hand in hand with grimmest fate

I walk through winter's bleak domain

No other soul to bear the blame

Behind me dragging ball and chain

Desperation grips me now

With feeble hands to hope I cling

Memories of spring warm and sweet

A plea to end my suffering

No never would these comforts last

If a new spring should come to pass

Wishing well never yielded grain

A fact I know from seasons past

But with contempt I still believe

Spring will return for good to set me free

Sunlight burn through my binding chains

Winter only fragmented memories
