What is normal? One may ask. Is it a state of mind or a place? Is there really such a thing? I wouldn’t know but it is a word that is used quite often is conversation. I tend to ask but no one comes up with a good enough answer for me.

Normal is just a word I suppose. It is whatever we think it up to be. Each person in this world has his or her own different ideas of what normal is. Just because we aren’t use to one certain way of life or a certain sound doesn’t make it abnormal. I believe there is no such thing as normal. I feel like it doesn’t exist and will never exist. People need to get out of their little shells and actually live life and see how the world really is.

If we were all the same the world would be so boring and monotonous. As I see it different is normal. If the world wasn’t so diverse we wouldn’t really have a history to tell about.

My name is Courtney Jackson but people call me CJ. I want to tell you about my life. Just because I think it would be neat for people to write about their lives and publish them. It would help people learn about different cultures and ideas and such.

I am an androgynous being. I have both male and female body parts. I don’t have boobs but I do have a vagina. I don’t have the monthly period that associates with girls.

The doctor had told us I couldn’t have children because I don’t have reproductive organs. I can live forever as a sixteen year old. My parents have to move every so often to keep me safe from people’s questions.

Each new place we move to they put me into eighth grade and then we move within a year after I graduate high school. I don’t mind the moving around a lot. It’s kind of interesting to be able to see all the different places. I don’t care much for being a kid all the time. It gets boring sometimes. There are days I want to be able to see what it’s like to do adult things.

I have so many journals I have written in that I keep hold of. I don’t want to leave out anything. I want to share everything with you.

One night, at midnight, I was in the middle of writing an email when I noticed a bright light in the sky. It landed in the field behind the property. Being curious type, I grabbed my coat and climbed out the window and down a ladder. I had put it up for when my friends sneak over with out parents’ permission.

My parents are gone most of the time anyways because they are writers and environmentalists so they are constantly going off to weird conventions. They travel all over the world doing book signings also.

When I got to the edge of the property I stood and listened for a moment while I caught my breath. I heard nothing. It was like the giant UFO was not running and there were no activity of any type from any kind of being.

“Boo,” James jumped out from behind a bush and in front of me; I stumbled back a bit.

“Asshole!” I whispered as I slugged him in the shoulder. “What are you doing?”

“Come to visit you,” James crouched down beside me. “I noticed you crossing the field over here so I followed.”

“Do you think its running?” I asked as I jumped over the fence and made my way to the ship as I tried to stay hidden amongst the corn crops. After a few moments I was at the end of the corn field. I walked right up to the craft and felt it. It felt cold; like it hadn’t been running.

“I don’t know. You’d think it would make some kind of noise if it was,” James caught up with me and I could feel his breath on my neck as we silently made our way onto the ship. We ducked into a room just as an alien had turned a corner and headed our way. After a few moments we noticed him pass by and out the door way followed by several human of both sexes. We looked at each other and then back out the small window.

They humans seemed to be in a kind of trance. The aliens must have just done tests on them or impregnated the women. Beings from other worlds tend to do that. As the last of them left we silently and carefully exited the room and followed. We kept looking around to make sure there was no being around.

We ran right into an alien when we turned down a hallway. I went to scream but James put his hand over my mouth. The alien’s skin was a light shiny turquoise color. He had only three fingers and a thumb on each hand. His head was dome shaped and his ears were pointed. His eyes were a lot like the human eyes. The colored part was a bright green color. He was probably only five foot four inches.

I realized that there was soft music playing. It’s the kind of music that could put you to sleep even if you have tons of sugar and caffeine running through your veins.

I ran away as fast as I could. I didn’t realize that James and I had separated. I tried to find my way back outside but couldn’t. Every door I came to was locked. I went into one that was unlocked and noticed an alien doing some kind of an experiment on a human male. I smiled weakly and left.

I ran smack into the alien I was trying to get away from. I tried to run away but he had a good hold of me. He dragged me down into a room and tied me onto a hard table looking thing.

I woke up in my bed screaming. I turned my table lamp on and tried to gather myself.

“Courtney you okay?” My dad came in and sat down on my bed next to me.

“Um, yeah I will be fine. I just had a bad dream. It was really weird and seemed so real.” I said and started checking myself for sore or puncture marks. I didn’t manage to find any which was good.

“You sure you will be fine?” Dad looked at me weird as he pushed some hair out of my face.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. Just shook me up a bit.” I said as I put my head back down on the pillow.

“OK, just remember I am here when you need me,” dad got up and shut the table light off.

“I will,” I smiled then called James soon as dad went back to bed. “James? I just had the craziest dream.”

“So did I,” James groggily replied.

It’s a few days after my birthday and I am out seeing a psychiatrist. My parents made me go. I told them about the dream and how it was so real. Plus, I kept hearing voices calling to me.

“Alright, Courtney here is what we are going to do today.” Mr. Carrington said as he picked up some cards and his notebook off his desk. “We are going to do a Rorschach test. I am going to show you some inkblots and I want you to tell me the first thing you see.”

“Yeah, sure,” I said not wanting to be here.

He held up the first one and I blurted out the first thing I saw. Which was an alien and he was in trouble. He knew something that he isn’t suppose to know. They are afraid he will ruin their plan of taking over the whole planet.

He jotted down some notes as we went through the rest of them.

“What’s the sense of this?” I asked when we finished.

“Just to help get an insight into your ‘I’ self.” Mr. Carrington sat his notebook on the table next to him and leaned forward.

“Nope, I am fine.” I said not wanting to talk about things and have more people treat me like I am crazy. He was actually a good looking man. He didn’t seem very old mid-thirties maybe with light dusty brown hair. His face was well shaved. He had a slender jaw that ended in a point.

“Okay, just remember I am here for when you need to talk. Keep a journal for me, if you want, and we can go through what you wrote in it!” He suggested and gave me a card with his name and number on it.

“Sure,” I said and we got up and I left the door and headed home. On the way home I stopped by the library and got a book on spirituality.

When I got home there was a note stating that there was food for me in the microwave. I started hearing whispers in my head. I couldn’t make out what they were saying. After about five minutes they faded away.

I ate my dinner and then went into my room and found an empty composition book and started to write in it. I figured if anything it might help me figure out what was going on. I never planned on sharing it with anyone.

“CJ?” I heard a voice hollering from outside my window and I went over. When I looked out I saw James.

“Get your ass in here!” I waved him up and he climbed up.

James stretched out on my bed as I sat back down and finished writing in the composition book.

“Do you think that was real or that we both dreamt the same thing?” James asked as he bounced a ball off the ceiling.

“Is it possible for two to have the same dream?” I asked closing the book and turning to face James.

“I don’t know! I suppose if, maybe, they were like twins or something. Aren’t twins supposed to be psychic or something?” James put the ball back on the nightstand.

All I could do was shrug. I wasn’t sure about much anymore.

It took a few sessions for me to fully come out and start talking to Mr. Carrington.

“You can call me Greg.” He said as we started our fourth session.

“Okay, so what are we going to do today?” I asked as he sat down next to me with his notebook and a pen.

“Well, if there is anything you want to talk about we can. Just whatever is on your mind,” Greg said as he sat at an angle.

“I kept a composition book of what I heard. You can read through it,” I handed him the composition book and he opened it and took a few minutes to flip through it.

“So you hear voices in your head?” Greg said as he flipped through the pages and I nodded. “How could you have been alive in 1845?”

“I am immortal!” I scrunched my nose. I don’t even know why I am immortal or how it is even possible. With the way everyone talks there isn’t supposed to be such a thing as immortality except, maybe, through story. But to actually live forever seemed ridiculous.

There was a moment of silence as he finished. I got up and walked around a bit. I was wondering what he would ask. I was hoping he would understand what I wrote. If not I suppose he would ask. That’s part of his job is asking questions.

“So they get louder at a certain place in the back yard?” Greg handed the book back to me. I held it against my chest.

“Yeah, I hear them loudest over by a tree. They are screams of pain and pleading.” I put my head in my hand. I couldn’t understand why. It made me wonder if someone was tortured there and possibly killed. All I know is that I wanted to find out what and why.

“When did this all start happening?” Greg asked as he put his hand on my leg.

“A few weeks ago just before my birthday. That was when I was abducted by aliens.” I looked at him expecting him to think I needed to be put on some kind of medicine for being delusional or something.

“The property where you and your parents live use to have part of a state penitentiary on it. It was the part where they tortured the prisoners.” Greg explained as he got up and showed me a picture of the penitentiary.

“There are actually bits and pieces of that still there. I just wasn’t sure what they were from.” I handed the picture back to Greg.

“By the tree?” He asked and I nodded as I paced.

We went back to my house and I showed him where I hear them the loudest. I stood by the tree and looked at him.

“The voices and screams are the loudest here,” I said as I looked at the ground and the tree. Just as I got the sentence out the wind starting blowing real hard. I looked around and noticed Greg he was standing there like he was summoning something. He had his eyes closed and was whispering real fast in a different language.

“Greg?” I asked as I tried to keep my hair out of my face. Next thing I knew I was in a space ship. I noticed all kinds of different buttons and lights. It was like the control center of the place.

“CJ, do you know who you are?” Greg asked as I turned around to face him.

“What do you mean?” I asked as he walked up to me and put his arms on my waist.

“You are like me,” He pushed my hair out of my face. “You are from the planet Zimher. You are my lover.”

“How did I get down to Earth then?” I asked pushing him away. “Why did you take me here and leave me?”

“To keep you safe from Hangret. I couldn’t let anything happen to you. He threatened to kill you.” Greg’s eyes watered up as he reached for me.

“You are the next ruler of Zimher. With you out of the picture he was next in line to be ruler and he wanted that so bad. He wanted to turn the place into a chaotic evil place.” Greg tried to explain.

“I…I don’t understand. This is all too sudden.” I turned my back to him as I tried to take in what he had just said. I didn’t want to believe I was from another planet. But, it also explains why I am so different.

“Just come with me,” Greg put his hands on my shoulders, “We can be together forever like we were meant to be.”

The ship started up all by itself and lifted off into space. On the way back to Zimher Greg explained how I was royalty there and that we were given each others hands in marriage and was to rule the planet in peace and love. That I was the balance the place needed to stay at peace.

I was the chosen one who brought peace among the people because of my soft voice and stories of peace and love.

When we got there we got out of the ship and carefully made our way past the dusty ruins of buildings and roads. All the people looked so sick and thin. They were being starved and beaten by those who followed Hangret. He didn’t like to see happiness and health. He wanted destruction and chaos and pain.

It was sad anyone could live with themselves when doing such a thing as this. We made our way through the narrow walkways and up to the bottom of a rather large mountain.

“On top is the building that the ruler lives in. Right now it’s Hangret. We need to find a way to get in there and destroy him.” Greg said. It looked as though it may take us a while to make our way up the mountain and once there we weren’t exactly sure what to do.

On our way we met a few people who said that the only way to destroy him was to put a mirror up to his face. His own reflection will destroy him because of how deformed it was. Plus, anyone who looked into his eyes died from all the evil that was in his eyes. Even he would die from it.

Once to the top we had another problem which was finding a way in past the guards who were rather large and bulky. Neither of us could take them out even if we took them together.

“They don’t look very intelligent. What if we somehow tricked them?” I spoke in a whisper. I looked around and noticed that they liked to show off to each other. They tried to out do each other and mimic each others moves. “I have an idea.”

We went up and some of the guards were showing off some dance moves. I went up to them and started doing a break dance routine. When they tried to mimic it I shoved at them and they lost balance and fell into the water. They were so heavily armored that they simply drowned.

“Good thinking CJ,” Greg patted the back of my shoulder and we made our way into the castle and down the corridors to where Hangret was sleeping. I held a mirror in front of his face as Greg woke him up.

The moment Hangret opened his eyes and saw his reflection he instantly died. He turned to dust and blew out the window. Greg and I went out onto the balcony and saw that the sun started to shine brightly. We saw that everything magically went back to the way it was before. It was so beautiful. We noticed a crowd gathered below and cheered for our return.

From then on out Greg and I ruled in peace and love. No one ever had to suffer again.
