There are no stars, you said
as you looked outside the upstairs window like the morning moon.
There was a mist collecting under us when I asked
why, and you took my hands in yours as if apologizing.

I felt the sigh and there was a pause.
Because I've wished upon too many
you whispered, and your voice fell to the floor like feathers.

I wish I hadn't asked what you'd wished for;
My blood turned to ash and
each bone in my frame began to moan,
when your reply was that you wished for me to break my own heart,
Before I could break yours.
