I walk very quickly in the dark alleyway. This place still creeps the hell out of me. It is so dark I can barely see a thing. Why did I stay late at the library again? Oh yah, that’s right,
my stupid English partner Alison did do anything that she was supposed to so I had to do it. I could almost hear her stupid little excuses. “Sorry Angela, I just did have the time to do it. It’s
not my fault I’m busy.” God I hate her so much. Why did our stupid teacher have to pair me up with the stupidest, slutiest, god damn…?
“Hey Angel wait up!” the sudden voice behind me almost made me jump out of my skin. I leaned against the alley wall and tried to slow my heart rate as my boyfriend, Sanders, came up behind
me. I closed my eyes.
“A little warning would be nice.” I said as he came and leaned on the wall beside me. “You know I hate having to walk through this place in the dark. Next time you purposely scare me like
that I swear to god.” He laughed and put his arm around my waist.
“Sorry, it’s just so easy to scare you.”
I scowled at him, “yah, it’s also just so easy to get rid of you.”
He rolled his eyes, “sounds like someone had a bad day.” I sighed and nodded my head.
“You want to talk about it?” I shook my head, venting to my ‘already in enough trouble’ boyfriend wouldn’t help things. I got up off the wall and looked at my boyfriend. He wasn’t much for
the brains part of things but he’s definitely a looker. Actually he looked kind of pale right now.
“Hey, are you feeling okay? You look kind of pale.” He pursed his lips.
“Yah, I’m just a little creeped out too. Let’s get out of here.” He started dragging me away, glancing over his shoulder every now and again. When we got to my house he turned to face
“I have to go,” he said, “but I’ll see you soon, okay?” I nodded and he gave me a quick kiss. I turned to unlock my door, and when I blinked he was gone.
Okay, I thought to myself, that was kind of weird. I walked up the stairs to my room and changed into my pajamas. As I slept the same thing kept popping up in my dreams: What
was he keeping from me? I know something is wrong. It was a restless sleep that night and in the morning I was just barely able to force myself to sit up. I yawned, enormously, once or twice and
went to get dressed.
School sucked like I new it would. Alison forgot to do her part of our essay on ‘And Then There Were None’ by Agatha Christie, and I had to spend my entire lunch period writing it. What
really caught my attention was that Sanders wasn’t at school. When I got home the usual routine came along. Mom asked me how my day was, I said it was fine, and I walked up stairs to do my
homework. Before I did my homework I decided to call Sanders and see if he was okay.
“Hello?” said a cheerful voice on the other line.
“Hey, Mrs. Maggoty, is Sanders there?”
“No dear I thought he was at your house.” That was strange.
“But he wasn’t even at school today.” There was a long pause.
“Oh, dear, this is not good. He must have gotten lost in the woods again.”
“Here, I’ll go look for him. I know those woods inside and out.” I hung up the phone before she could answer. I ran downstairs and grabbed my coat yelling, “Mom, I’m going out!” I raced out
When I got into the woods I stopped and glanced at my watch. It was 9:00 and it was already getting dark. Maybe I should just go home, come back tomorrow, when it’s lighter out. No, I can’t
be such a chicken. I walked onto the dirty path and hoped to god I would find Sanders.
I walked and walked until I heard something behind me. I gasped and turned around, there was nothing there. My imagination must be going wild; my fear of any dark, closed, space made things
that much worse. I heard something from behind me again. I turned to face my original direction. Again, there was nothing. I suddenly heard things from all directions, like someone was circling
around me, so fast I couldn’t see them.
I started running, looking for a way out, but I only found myself going further into the woods. Looking around as I went, seeing nothing but the black outline of trees, the shadows dancing in
the wind like monsters moving from side to side. I suddenly crashed into something, someone.
It wasn’t Sanders.
He was smiling, his voice a sound of perfect desire that ran chills up my spine.
“Well, look here, I found a snack.” He grabbed my arm and I winced as his strong hands embraced me. “You should know better than to come in the woods after dark.” He bent his head down to my
neck and I held my breath. What the hell was this guy doing?
I felt his perfectly straight teeth at my neck. I closed my eyes as I felt the stab of pain and the heat of my pulsing through the wound in my throat. I suddenly felt his body being ripped
off me and I was shoved back onto the ground. I opened my eyes and stared in horror as someone took a twisted, bulky, blade and stabbed it through his chest. I started hyperventilating as he turned
to face me.
My scream was glass shattering. Or at least it was before Sanders came and put his blood covered hand over my mouth, so fast I didn’t even see him. He put his arm around me and tried to hold
me still. I struggled furiously to get out of his grasp, but he was just too strong and soon my anger and fear transformed itself into tears. I broke down crying, in shock. My boyfriend just killed
someone, someone who was still lying dead on the ground in front of me.
As soon as Sanders realized that I was done trying to get away he released my mouth and held me closer.
“Angela, listen to me.” I shook my head, still crying my eyes out.
“You killed someone, how could you. How did you move so fast? What are you?!”
I shoved his hands away and tried to get up, but he caught my wrist and slammed me back onto the ground. I hit my head on a tree. I gasped as the new pain hit.
“Angel, you will listen to me! If you don’t I’ll have to kill you too.” I stopped breathing, stopped crying, I stopped everything.
“Now, are you calm enough for me to let go of you?” I nodded. “And you wont run away?” I nodded again. He let me go and I moved away, I didn’t move away enough so that he’d think I was going
to try and run.
“Good, now, take a look at me Angel, look at what I am.” He moved his head to the side so that I could see two small holes in the side of his neck. My eyes widened and I started
No… he can’t be… it’s not possible… I jumped up and pressed my back against a tree. Sanders reached his hand out for me to take and sit back down with him. I shook my head quickly,
saying no and trying to clear my head. He started to get up, that’s when I couldn’t take it anymore.
I started running, running as fast as I could, and yet Sanders was in front of me. I ran right into him and he grabbed the tops of my arms so tight it hurt. He looked straight into my
“Angela, just say it! Say what I am!”
Shook my head and closed my eyes shut. “No, no it’s not true! You don’t exist!”
“I know you know it just say it!”
I held my breath. “No.” I whispered, “No, there’s no such thing. You say what you are. I don’t believe it!”
He shook me hard, “I’m a vampire! You know it’s true I see it in your eyes!” he let me go. “It is true just, say it!”
I turned back running and screaming at the same time. I had to tell somebody, but who could I tell? As I ran I again didn’t see Sanders. I ran right into him and something pierced my
chest. Sanders pulled the bloody, twisted, blade from my heart.
I leaned on him, gasping for air, trying to breathe through the blood rushing into my mouth. My vision started to fade, but I could still see the tears in Sanders eyes.
“I’m so sorry Angel. Angela I’m so sorry. You will always be my fallen angel. I had to stop you from telling anyone I’m so sorry.” Those were the last words I ever heard.
But my last thought was: Sanders how could you? And with that I slowly die.
