This is a story of two best friends unknown of their own feelings until one day when they finally commit to what they want. This is also my entry for BethanyBeckybook's Spring and Romance contest.

From Best friends to love

It is an old saying that “Friendship often ends in love, but love in friendship... Never.”

This is the story of Rocky and Ever, two best-friends unknown of their own feelings.

It was spring-time and Ever and Rocky were sitting in the park, talking about how their day went, which was what they usually did.

“I need to ask you something,” said Ever, looking a little nervous which was unusual. I mean who could say that a girl like Ever could ever be nervous. She looked like she had just come out of a zoo, with her curly hair which was always a mess, and her tom-boyish clothes. She was the kind of girl who never cared about what others thought, and it worked perfectly for her. Because people never stopped gossiping about Ever and Rocky. Everyone thought that there was something going on between these two, while they were happy with their friendship. They were best of friends and nobody dare messed up with them.

“What is it?” Rocky asked casually, sipping his juice.

“Will you be my boyfriend?” Rocky choked on his juice and began coughing.

“Is everything alright?” he asked, suddenly very serious.

“No it’s not. Will you answer me now?”

“Ever, first tell me what’s going on?” He knew her too much to know that something was definitely up. Rocky was ladies’ man and understood girls better than they understood themselves. And with the looks of a hot model, it was way too easy for him to get a date.

“Do you know that guy.. Rey.. whatever?”

“Reyansh.” Of course Rocky knew him. They were in the same class and Rey was nice but really touchy.

“Yeah.. him. He’s sucha…”

“Language.” Rocky cut her off. It was Ever’s weak point. She had no control over her tongue.

“He’s following me and irritating me, telling me he loves me and all other shit.”

“So you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend to shut him up.”

“Yes,” she said nervously.

“Done, but for how long?”

“One week max.”

“Fine but only because you asked.”

The next week went amazingly. All the rumors about them finally stopped when they made it official. The looks on the faces of their friends were worth watching and Ever enjoyed the death glares from Rocky’s fan girls. Reyansh eventually kept his distance from Ever and was shocked when Rocky put his arm around Ever.

Once again, Ever and Rocky were in the park, laughing and talking about the past week’s experience when the cloud thundered.

“It’s going to rain,” said Ever.

They both got up and Rocky said, “We better go home.” Ever threw the grass that was in her hand on Rocky and winked at him.

“You,” he spoke and picked her up.

“Everything’s so beautiful in spring. Grass is more green, these flowers smell beautiful,” said Ever. Rocky had never heard Ever speak like this. Maybe it was something about the way she spoke, or the atmosphere that he felt something inside his chest. He liked Ever. But maybe he could never tell her. What would she think? Maybe she’ll get angry and he’ll never see her again or maybe she feels the same. Instead of saying another word, he dropped her on the ground and spoke, “I’ll walk you home.”

“Good idea.” She agreed.

For a few minutes they walked in silence and then he came to a stop. Her house was just across the road and she turned to tell him good bye. He smiled. Just then a speeding car came crashing over there. It was going to hit Ever and Rocky jumped and pulled her into his arms. The car went away and there she was, her face buried in his chest and her heart beating fast.

“Oh! Thank God,” she sighed.

“Hell, Ever. You could’ve died. How can you be so careless?” he scolded her while pulling her into a tight hug.

A teardrop slid down his cheek. Just the thought of loosing Ever scared him. Yes, he loved her. He was sure now, this was love and nothing else.

“I love you,” he blurted out. Ever pulled back to look at him in the eye.

“What did you say?”

“I said that I love you Ever and I don’t care if you don’t feel the same way. I don’t care if you never want to see me again but I had to say it. I love you.”

Ever wasn’t upset, not even shocked, instead she smiled. But that smile didn’t last for more than a second.

“Don’t” She stopped him as he tried to move forward.

“Why not?”

“Because you are about to ruin everything. Everything, this friendship, this bond. It’s not that I don’t like you Rocky. I do, you know I do. But let’s say that we are together, in a relationship and what if things end badly?” That’s a fear even Rocky had.

“What if we decide not to see each other again? Then I’ll lose my best friend and trust me Rocky I can’t bear that.”

“You don’t have to. Everything will be great, trust me.”

She grinned. “You’re an idiot. But that’s why I love you.”

Rocky looked shocked. “Say it again.”

“I love you dammit.” Rocky pulled Ever into a deep kiss and as their lips met, rain started pouring heavily. They smiled with their lips joined together and let their bodies soak all the raindrops.

So that’s how they went from being Best friends to Lovers. Maybe it was because their feeling that they had buried came out or maybe it was just spring. Spring is the time of love and Ever and Rocky found their love. It has been two years and they are still together. And maybe they’ll stay together forever and For Ever.

yay first comment hahah. I liked the story, it was cute. Be careful when you type a spoken sentence you don't start with the other person's name. To me this was kind of confusing. For example. Mick says "blablabla" and he smiles warmly. "blablabla" Mick wraps his arms around Alex. I can guesse that the second blablabla would be Alex, but it could easily be Mick again. See what I mean? Anyway, thats the only thing I have at this point. Keep up the good work. Cheers

Aw that was cute lol for a second I thought Ever was a boy so I was like yay gay! But no that's not true haha anyways this was really cute! I think short stories are crazy at how fast things have to happen and whatnot but this was great! :) They seem good together and I'm a firm believer in the friends before dating thing so this was really relatable and awesome-sauceness! I Ghost-prove!

oh my gosh!! I wanna cry! :') I like the ending where you added in Ever's name!! GENIOUS!!! I also liked the beginning where you added in a quote that related to the whole story! Great job in creating a story with such few words too! Amazing! I could never do something like that! If I try, it becomes a novel! :P What a great talent you have for this! I love your writing style and the cuteness between the two! and, of course, the rain scene was just superb!! XD It was BEAUTIFUL!!!

for a short story its good but as a love story... i feel like it needs more as my teacher says FLUFF. id like to see this turn into a longer story if its at all possible. think of this as your... one-shot putting out the entire story down for ratings before you go for the full blown story.

This was such an ADORABLE story :) I absolutely Loved it. Ever and Rocky had a beautiful friendship which turned into love. It's always lovely when that happens. I enjoyed reading this story SO much. It's one of the cutest stories I've ever read. LOVED IT. A Like from me. :)

Crimson Star Locket

Three words i can describe about this short story right now; would be so cute, adorable,and awesome.;} i really liked how you portrayed Ever and Rocky friendship into something more *grin*. I thought it was a great idea to start off for Rocky to be Ever's fake boyfriend, so that in a way they can kind of figure out what's their relationship, but i did think Ever's idea was brilliant to get rid of Mr. Touchy Rey, LOL. Anyway, the ending part with Rocky saving Ever from that stupid driver was absolutely brilliant and when Rocky declares his love for her. And i think it was great what Ever did about worrying about their friendship, because you can see that she deeply cares about him and she never wants to lose her best buddy. But in the end, i'm glad she gave up and kissed Rocky in a passionate way. So anyway, great job on this and good luck on the contest:}
