Night at the Cemetery - Part 3 by Allen Henriquez

 

Gus arrived at the grave site hearing the crickets gently caressing the dark in song, while trees swayed overhead in sync pushed by a light breeze, the grass, moist and inviting, like a green thick carpet.  The thick grass, had mounds of dirt on it.  The lid of the coffin had closed shut again, with Jim Willis’ body unseen by Gus, however Godfrey and Jack were laid out on the grass.  Godfrey was dead, but Jack was breathing shallowly as Gus kneeled down beside him, while Jack advised, “We opened the coffin and the dead man said, ‘I’ve been expecting you.’”

Jack then quickly went from labored breathing to death.  Gus stood up and dialed 911 on his cellphone, as he thought, “What will I tell them? What am I going to say?”
