Still Holding on Tightly – Part 4

The death of Olivia Zenda by a hit and run driver was emotionally upsetting news for some and disturbingly unfortunate information for others.  Clarence Figgins, who Olivia was deeply in love with, took the news in the category of the latter group, which was, sad to hear of her demise, but in no way overcome by it.  The ones that were devastated by word of her death were her mother, Nereida Zenda, a woman in her fifties, also a nurse’s aide who loved her daughter and desperately wanted to see her become a nurse.  The other person was Dolores Cortez a co-worker and nurse’s aide.  Dolores born in Corona, Queens, her mother, Maria Espinosa Cortez, originally from San Antonio, Texas, moved to New York City and married Pablo Cortez, who died of kidney failure at the age of 47.  Dolores got a job at Rockaway General hospital and relocated to Far Rockaway, Queens.  Dolores a smart, thirty year old, had no children and was taking college courses studying to be a nurse as was her friend Olivia before she met Clarence, and then her progressive mindset dissolved.  Dolores and Olivia before Clarence were the best of friends who planned their time off together when the police notified Dolores at work she lost consciousness and fell to the ground.  The third person to be ripped to emotional shreds by the news of Olivia’s death was Kiel.  Kiel was advised of the news as was Clarence Figgins and Dolores Cortez by NYPD Detectives Denise Haberstem and Fredrick Carter who were assigned to the case.  Kiel, like Clarence Figgins, were persons of interest in the vehicular murder of Olivia Zenda, however Kiel was cleared because he was on duty at the hospital.  Kiel was observed by the police detectives on the hospital’s closed circuit camera, at the time clock, to be punching out within seconds of the time the car that killed Olivia made contact.  The detectives then turned their attention to Clarence, but he had a solid alibi, it seems at the time of Olivia’s death Clarence was with his wife’s live-in boyfriend, Bob Olsen, having a glass of cabernet sauvignon.
