Golden eyes, scanning as the leaves fall in the silence of the morning.

The chill of winter beckoning at the door.

Bones scattered the grounds, burnt by the summer’s winds.

Cold air freezes their snouts.

Hunger pangs against their stomachs.

Flakes of white crunch under their claws.

Distant fires cry out in warmth.

Auburn coat, leader in red.

Courtaud took them farther, slinking against the scent of crimson.

Through the gates, through the flames, creating bones to decay.

Opposing the odds, onward they fought.

The city’s streets faced with gore.

Cornered, his tail in his legs, the hero stood.

Famine, he has saved his pack.

Death, the price he must pay.

Silver stone collides with his temple, stars in his eyes.

“Evil”, he speaks aloud.

But the monsters cannot hear him.

One after another, the silver beats him bloody.

Spikes pierce him as he falls.

Fading vision, his companions pushing the fight.

With one last battle cry, the source of life flees.

Auburn coat, red in tooth and claw.

His henchmen sprawled out among the cobble roads.

Hunger no longer pangs their stomachs.
