the past is just that

just a memory inside my head

just a drizzle of sights and sounds

that don't exist

but they did exist(?)

they did come alive in front of me

your hand held mine so tight

your goddamn smile warmed me

but I'm writing in past-tense

because your face is disappearing

because I took down all your pictures

and the past is just that

just a place I used to visit

your parents' house

looks dreadfully the same now

in present-tense

I can't remember your voice anymore

can't recall how your skin smelled

or what I did that made you laugh

past-tense makes for sad memories

present's just as lonely

future-tense may be better

but right now

and back then

converge into one and two

and I'm lost somewhere between

knowing you

and losing you
