affairs are tricky things.  they force you to become someone you're not.  or maybe they just allow you to be someone you didn't know you were.

i was careful.  i was always watching, my paranoid eyes stretching out toward the empty motel parking lot.  if either of us had been caught...well, things would've been unfixable.  our normal lives that we'd taken care to craft for so many years, they would've shattered into tiny pieces.  and we would never have enough glue to put them back together.

i wish you'd stop watching.  it's making me nervous.your voice fluttered slightly, like there was much more to say.

aren't you ever nervous? i feel like they all know.  i feel like i can hear them whispering...

i try not to think about it.  when you think about it, there's too much to consider.you looked down at your lovely feet, you had painted your toes red that day.

i wanted to go and hug you.  i wanted to tell you it would all be okay and that nothing was wrong.  but we both knew we'd done something wrong.  more than just wrong, it was bad.  we went with our emotions, got carried away by each other's souls...and there was no turning back.  as i contemplated our mistakes, the millions of them, you smiled at me.  the beauty of your face and the enchanting person inside of it pierced me.  i realized at that moment that i had probably ruined both your life as well as mine by following my feelings, by allowing myself to love you completely. and yet i could no longer imagine life without you.  my breath caught in my throat and i cried.  it was painful, the tears stung slightly as they brimmed along my eyelids.  you came to sit beside me on the bed, the sheets tossed about; a white linen sea of love left behind.

i kissed you on the mouth and sucked in your breath.
