You let your heart flow onto the page
All your feelings laid bare
I read the words, I feel the loss
And the guilt, wishing I were there.
For it was me who caused this
Caused you to feel this way
I wish I could make it better
Maybe I could, if only I could say
I love you, just those three words
Yet they carry such power
I want to tell you I miss you
What we had… every hour
So why can I not utter them
Those words you so long to hear
Declare them to you
What is it I fear?
Though it’s true I feel them
Deep in my heart
In the pit of my stomach
Just like we were at the start
No doubt the words are there
On the tip of my tongue
But the consequences of my words
Would only make me run
So for now I’ll keep my silence
And read your heart felt sonnet
I’ll take my own page
And scribe my unclear feelings upon it
You’ll never know what your words mean
That I read them every night
That every verse of your poetry
Inspired me to write
Maybe you’ll read this poem
And just perhaps you will see
The inspiration to work
Is actually me.
