So I started this in Honors Math and finished it in Advisory... My classmates were reading over my shoulder, and they were like, "What the heck...?" Anyways, this is sort of a true story... There was a spider in my bathroom last night, and I didn't kill it 'cause I'm such a wimp, lol. (I can't help my arachnophobia!) Anywaaaaaays, enjoy!

The Spider

I watch a spider
Crawl up the wall
In my bathroom
Late at night.

It can only go a few paces
Before it trips,
Only to be caught
By a fine string
Attached to its web.

I want to kill it
Because it and I
Are different.
It scares me
Because it could be bad,
And it could be poisonous.
It might try to hurt me...

But then again, it might not.

Really, the spider and I
Are kind of alike.
I play Life's cruel game
Just like the spider does.

I try to climb my own wall,
But Life throws challenges at me,
And sometimes I fall,
And I'm only anchored to the world of sanity
By a single silken string.

I decide that I
Should leave the spider,
My mini-me,
In peace.

I shut out the lights,
And pretend I didn't see
The spider on the wall...

Just like society
Shuts out the lights,
And pretends not to see
Me.
