Like that little wooden soldier

a gift when you were ten

you say you love it

will never forget it

but this is now, that was then.

Where is that little wooden soldier?

buried amongst the dust

will your memory

of me be the same?

was it love, or was it lust?

Like that big brown bear

a gift when I was five

tattered and worn

together by threads

but still, in my eyes, alive.

Like that big brown bear

I hold on to you

in my memory

you are the same

the one I refuse to lose.

I ask you, please, to treat it well

that little wooden soldier

brush the dust off his little wooden hat

his face, his shoulders

don't forget his existence

keep him close to you

my big brown bear stays with me still

he's the one I refuse to lose.
