Sam and Ali have lived hard lives. When Sam was seven and Ali was four, their father left them and their mother to fend for themselves. Then, when Ali was twelve and Sam was fifteen, their mother died in a car accident. With no relatives to take them in, the siblings were sent to foster care for a year, until they were adopted by John and Lucy Collins. Finally, things were starting to get back to normal. But fate doesn't seem to want them to be happy, because just as they start to relax return to an ordinary routine, an old family secret--one that doesn't seem so secret to one of them--come to light, and the two of them are thrown into a world that they don't understand, one where they have targets on their backs.
