This article emphasizes the importance of having a mentor in today’s corporate world. It is very important to have a mentor. A mentor provides us with a sense of direction especially when we are sailing through troubled waters. A mentor is like a teacher. A mentor helps us overcome our weaknesses and helps us work on our strengths. A mentor helps us in honing our skills.
 
In most cases, a mentor is a manager. We need to surrender our self to a mentor in order to learn and grow. The motto has to be surrender and learn. It is very difficult to play the role of a mentor. The person who is a mentor has to be people friendly and must know how to handle different kinds of people. He must also be able to solve people’s problems and provide practical and pragmatic solutions to their problems. He must be a problem solver. A mentor must be a person having rich experience in the industry and wide exposure so that he can effectively tackle the challenges which come along the way. A mentor must also be able to provide a sense of direction as to where our career is heading. He must be able to provide alternate career plans in case of any current career issues. A mentor must be prudent and must have foresight. A mentor must have in depth knowledge and expertise about various verticals. He must also know how to effectively assess a person’s profile.
 
Mentoring is an art and a skill which needs to be acquired. Many companies coach and train people to become mentors. Finally to conclude, we can say that mentoring is very critical for growth in today’s corporate arena.
