I hastily opened my wardrobe.

It came down in a tumble.

Old newspaper clippings, of loss and relief.

Faded ribbons, confetti of memories.

Broken bangles or broken dreams?

Trinkets of forever – after from the Gypsy caravan

Crumpled, little notes, promises from long ago,

Tickets to times of togetherness,

Frayed scarves, laundry bills,

Scraps of daily domesticity

Old photographs, lingering smiles and searching eyes.

I put them all in a bundle again

And put the bundle on a shelf.

They might become something more as years pass by

Ribbons, bangles , notes

Souvenirs from lanes and by lanes of the mind.

Might become relics of lives lived.
