I wrote this years ago for rememberance day

The long flowing folds of her poppy red dress

Blowing through the winds, with elegant finesse

Her long dark hair silhouetting her gentle pale skin

Her fly away fringe, hiding away the pain within

Beside her leg stood two pretty little girls

And to her side a little boy with light blonde curls

They all stood straight, proud and strong

They weren’t sure if they still knew his song

Their daddy, husband, lover, friend

They loved their soldier until the end

His coffin covered with a clean bright flag

Not one tear, crease, hole or snag

The little boy, in his new clean suit

Stood with his arm raised in a perfect salute

One little girl the tallest of the two,

Stood clutching her dress of brilliant bright blue

The youngest of the three, a two year old girl

Wearing her delicate necklace, mother of pearl

Her eyes are bright, but behind the smile

A sadness that will last for quite a while

The beautiful lady stood with tears in her eyes

She stays strong, her smile as her disguise

A man walks in across the grass to their side

Held out his hand, into his shoulder she cried

The hours passed by, the children walk away

Their world darkening, becoming shades of grey

Only one thing remained by their soldiers grave

A sea of red, with a white wave

Red poppies to say we will never forget

White for the hope that one day the threat

Of loosing their loved ones will soon disappear

Hope to children that they need no longer fear

One day many years from now

On a stage, a young lady takes her final bow

Stares out into the crowd

59 soldiers standing proud

They came to clap and cheer her on

And show her that her dad lives on

Ten feet behind stands a young man

To join the forces is his plan

And behind the scenes her sister screams loud

To watch out for her sister, she had vowed

But many years on not one forgets

No soldier, no student, none of his cadets

You see their soldier looks on from above

Giving them forever, his everlasting love

Those children became brilliant people of the world

And in their life, their story swirled

For many a month, their heart sunk when they thought

But now they know for what their father had fought

It was them, their future, their lives and their love

And he now watched the fruits of his labour from high up above.
